Microsoft Corporation Senior Power Supply Design Engineer in Redmond, Washington

Are you passionate about building cool devices and technologies? The Surface development team is seeking a talented individual to join our power supply team. This team designs power supplies for Xbox, Hub, Surface and Hololens. .

Responsibilities

You will work in closely with product designers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, regulatory, program managers and manufacturing to create and deliver power supplies

As a Senior Power Supply Design Engineer. This individual will be responsible for designing external and internal AC/DC power supply for consumer appliances.

Qualifications

This position will require in-depth knowledge with all AC/DC power supply topologies/designs from 5W to 1000W. The position will require team work and taking ideas from concept to high volume mass production. The position will coordinate with product teams for power supply definitions and work with vendors’ R&D teams to jointly come up with power supply design. This position also requires working closely with our vendors’ R&D teams to design and debug issues (including EMI and Common Mode noise) as well as working with vendors team/factories for engineering samples and providing final products within tight deadlines/schedules.

The candidate should have good understanding of general areas such as all varieties of power supply topologies used in AC/AC, AC/DC, DC/DC; schematic drawings; solving EMI and common mode noise issues; materials (BOM) for applications; high volume assembly manufacturing requirements; simulation, testing, evaluation and quality assurance; and experience in common international quality standard such as UL, CE, EMC etc.

Applicant must be self-directed and own the problem while driving multiple solutions in parallel. Must be able to design, author, and direct suppliers and factories, manage external vendors. Must be a continuous learner with a strong curiosity for new ideas. Well-organized, excellent project management, and communication skills is a must. The role will require international travel.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering; Masters preferred

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in power supply design

  • Self-motivated and proactive with demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities

  • High tolerance to ambiguity and ability make progress in the face of it

  • Attention to details, ability to work well individually and in team settings

  • Good partnering and communication skills

  • International Travel Required 4-6 trips per year
