The Consultant/Senior Consultant, External Communications will perform and deliver on communications assignments/projects while simultaneously leveraging and applying knowledge of his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility. S/he will specialize in communication assignments/projects for external audiences, including but not limited to developing external communications narratives and content, proactive and reactive media relations, identifying external opportunities to promote Lincoln’s products, services, leadership and brand. Responsibilities + Identifies opportunities to proactively promote Lincoln’s products, services, leadership and brand to external audiences including media, influencers and others. + Develops external communications content including talking points, press releases, fact sheets, executive speeches, and social media postings for a diverse range of audiences as needed. + Cultivates and maintains relationships with reporters and influencers in relevant areas of focus. + Provides counsel and support to communications peers and Lincoln executives on reactive and proactive external strategies, tactics and messaging. + Evaluates past media campaigns and researches the campaigns of competitors to help create proactive, integrated external communications campaigns. + Utilizes benchmarks and metrics to track communication effectiveness of external communications, media relations and identify areas for improvement and opportunity. + Serves as in-house expert on external communications best practices and trends. + Researches potential speaking opportunities and identify appropriate Lincoln executives and assists in pulling together pitches to place speakers. + Identifies internal content that can be utilized by Lincoln external team to drive interaction with media and influencers through owned channels. Education + 4 Year Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's) Experience + 4-7+ years’ experience in communications that directly aligns to the responsibilities of this role + Ability to perform under stress in cases of emergency, critical or hazardous situations. + Ability to work with others in a team environment. + Demonstrated solid relationship management skills with internal clients at all levels (e.g. management, peers and colleagues). + Demonstrates excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and multi-task while maintaining strict attention to detail. + Demonstrates solid project management skills including, critical ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment, under pressure, and meeting deadlines. + Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative style. + Demonstrates the ability to use sound judgment and discretion regarding confidential information. + Finds common ground and can gain collaboration among management, colleagues and peers; can influence outcomes without directing or commanding. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). + Successfully completes regulatory and job training requirements. #LI-LW1 This position may be subject to Lincoln’s Political Contribution Policy.
