Avantor, Inc. Finance Architect in Radnor, Pennsylvania

Job SummaryThe Finance Architect is responsible on global level for designing end-to-end processes related to finance and controlling. In this position he/she reports to the Director Finance and controlling reporting into the VP application development of Avantor.To meet the growing expectations of the business, this role is responsible for implementing finance and controlling related processes in our ERP systems. These applications are currently based upon multiple SAP ECC & S4/HANA applications but also include proprietary/custom applications outside SAP.The main objective is to apply the application strategy to support new business requirements and additional acquired organizational units.Participation in several (international) taskforces and global/local projects is a component of the role.


  • Design and implement new processes on existing SAP and other 3rd party applications and custom software development

  • Translate functional requirements into technical specifications that can be carried out by the offshore development team.

  • Drive Continuous improvement of existing processes

  • Build and maintain relationships within the Enterprise Services department

  • Participate in (global/local ) projects

  • Help driving our company through the S4/HANA CFIN journey and execute our application service roadmap accordingly

  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)

  • Requires 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience. Master's degree preferred or equivalent work experience

  • 10+ years’ experience in IT ERP application systems

  • Minimum of 5 life-cycle implementations of SAP, preferably in an international environment

  • SAP ECC6.0 (10+ years’ ) is required and S4/HANA experience (3-years’) is preferred

  • Experience in executing a SAP transformation program from ECC to S4

  • SAP Certifications and/or courses are a plus

  • Knowledge on all financial integration aspects with other SAP modules is a must

  • Knowledge of external reporting & filing systems

  • Knowledge of Qlik and Tableau is preferred

  • Knowledge of Hyperion is nice to have

  • Experience in financial audits is certainly preferred

  • Experience in SOX Sarbanes Oxley is preferred

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)

  • Knowledge of SAP best practices and SAP Implementation Methodology desirable

  • Proven proficiency / knowledge (10+ years) in following areas

  • SAP Financial Accounting and PCA

  • SAP Controlling, COPA

  • SAP Asset accounting

  • SAP Treasury

  • SAP Costing

  • Strong technical analysis skills for creating optimal solutions for the business

  • Strong technical and functional knowledge and ability to express complex technical concepts in terms understandable to the business

  • Good understanding of the integration points across SAP modules

  • Hands-on system

  • Effective communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-tasking stressful environment, working independently and prioritizing work

  • Must have strong teamwork skills

  • Must be able to communicate with all levels of management as well as to employees in the business

  • Must be highly motivated, have a great work ethic and enjoy working as part of an international team


  • Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level.

  • A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis.

  • May intermittently travel domestically, international travel is unlikely.

  • A certain flexibility of working hours is expected.

  • Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs.
