DIVISION OF FACILITIES MANAGEMENT - SOUTHERN DISTRICT

The Division of Facilities Management is a customer-driven support organization responsible for providing facilities management services to all CDHS agencies and offices. These services include the maintenance of building and grounds, custodial, capital construction (budgeting and contract management), utilities management, vehicle fleet management, building space leasing allocation, and facilities planning services. This is accomplished through a centralized statewide team that is divided into three districts and a central office. By combining our expert professional extensive facilities knowledge and strong commitment to reliable, responsive service, we enable our clients to achieve consistently high-performance facilities, and long-term value. The Division of Facilities Management is seeking highly motivated and experienced Custodians to join our team. Our goal is to be an organization that meets customer expectations 100% of the time.

Description of Job

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE JOB ANNOUNCEMENT PRIOR TO COMPLETING THE APPLICATION.

This unit exists to perform Housekeeping and Custodial services to assure that the facilities and client environments are cleaned and maintained according to all applicable regulatory standards, and provides a safe sanitary environment for clients and staff. Meet the facilities needs of the Department of Human Services Southern Region customers. Manage available resources to provide a physical environment at the highest quality possible.

Facilities served are: CMHIP, PRC, D.Y.C. (Zeb Pike, Spring Creek, and Pueblo Youth Services Center) in the Southern District. Total facilities served are approximately 1.6 million sq. ft. at multiple sites within the Southern Region.

Establish and maintain a pleasant, safe, and sanitary environment for clients, personnel and visitors in the buildings of the Department of Human Services.

This position is unique in that it provides Custodial Services for a wide range of agencies within the Department of Human Services, which include Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo campus, the Division of Youth Corrections and the Division supporting of Developmental Disabilities

The position is required to meet and maintain all regulatory requirements set by JCAHO. (Joint Commission for Accrediting Health Organizations) and the Colorado Department of Public Health and other regulatory agencies

Duties:

  • Performs daily cleaning, sanitizing, and servicing of assigned work area as per schedules and procedures by use of appropriate disinfectant cleaners, chemicals and equipment consisting of sweeping, dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, restroom cleaning, and other duties as assigned.

  • The position requires the driving of State vehicles from agency to agency for which we provide services to.

  • Performs daily detail cleaning of assigned area as per schedules and procedures by use of appropriate disinfectant cleaners, chemicals and equipment – consisting of washing walls, doors, frames, sills, windows, baseboards, fixtures, furnishings, ceilings, vents, and light fixtures.

  • Performs weekly project work within all areas includes all hard floor and carpet areas.

  • Performs project floor work consisting of buffing, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and sealing of hard floor surfaces, and spot cleaning, shampooing and extracting of carpeted floors by use of appropriate cleaning chemicals and equipment

  • Collects and disposes of trash and biohazard waste by properly containing and transporting to proper disposal locations.

  • The removal of desks, chairs etc., to conduct project floor work in all areas on a weekly basis.

  • Participates in moving of furniture, appliances, equipment, supplies, etc. manually and by use of moving equipment.

  • May need to assist in snow removal when needed.

  • Cleans and services equipment, maintains janitorial closet, supplies, stock levels, and chemical labeling requirements.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all of the following qualifications to continue in the selection process for this position. Work experience must be specifically documented on your application.

Experience:

  • Candidate must have (6) Six months custodial experience, which must have been performed within a hospital, nursing home or large business/corporation type setting or similar.

Substitutions:

Necessary Special Requirement:

  • Must possess and maintain a current and active Colorado driver's license.

    You must provide a detailed description of your work experience and qualifications that describe how you meet the required qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Custodial experience working in a health care, institute or nursing home environment

  • Previous experience working in a controlled environment (secured buildings)

  • Understand mixture and safe care of chemicals to include mixing, using and disposing of cleaning chemicals including understanding of the environmental issues involved in handling, different cleaning products

  • Identifying, minimizing, and reporting safety hazards

  • Previous experience working with Housekeeping equipment, buffers, burnishers, carpet extractors, (working with commercial cleaning equipment)

  • Following proper sanitation procedures for restrooms including disinfecting urinals, toilet bowls, washing restroom partitions, walls, floors, showers and bathtubs

  • Preparing hard surface floors for sealant including the proper method of stripping and re-waxing hard surfaces.

  • Operating floor scrubbers, carpet extractors, burnishers and floor buffers for large areas.

  • Managing large scale cleaning projects in a cooperative team environment.

  • Shampooing carpets.

  • Cleaning such as dusting, collecting trash, washing windows and sills, mirrors, woodwork, doors, walls and ceiling and filling soap, towel and toilet tissue dispensers.

  • Paying attention to detail, strong time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.

  • Working in a team environment to complete daily workloads and provide support when necessary outside of assigned areas.

  • Excellent customer service skills to include communicating with and responding to all level of employees.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Pre-employment Physical – post offer screening to include dynamic strength testing, eye exam and physical - All job offers are contingent on a successful physical exam which also includes a lift and range of motion test provided by a designated health care professional, certifying candidate's ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
