Position summary

  • Managing and directing specific business development alliance governance activities in connection with assigned alliance manager(s) and associated portfolio of clinical, and/or commercial stage alliances

  • Serve as face of the collaboration to internal and partnership senior leadership to ensure strategic and executional alignment for alliances of great complexity; responsibilities include leading governance meetings, consensus building, and dispute resolution for multiple regions and areas

  • Developing a comprehensive understanding of alliance partners within their portfolio; serving as or leading the internal BMS expert on partner dynamics and the overall state of the BMS-partner relationship

  • Provide mentorship to internal stakeholders and serve as thought partner for therapeutic area (TA); Primary area of focus will be Fibrosis & Immunoscience, but could also support other TAs

  • Represent BMS externally as a senior leader to both current and prospective partner companies

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Managing and directing specific business development alliance governance activities in connection with assigned alliance manager(s) and associated portfolio of clinical, and/or commercial stage alliances.

  • Serve as face of the collaboration to internal and partnership management (LT-1 to LT-3) to ensure strategic and executional alignment for alliances of great complexity (e.g., high R&D spend and/or global revenues, contain firewall considerations); responsibilities include leading governance meetings, consensus building, and dispute resolution

  • Developing a comprehensive understanding of alliance partners within their portfolio; serving as or leading the internal BMS expert on partner dynamics and the overall state of the BMS-partner relationship.

  • Responsible for understanding overall contract, mapping out relationship management strategy for functional area or TA, and overseeing and approval of supplementary contracting and documentation

  • Assist on, in coordination with BD and AM leadership, any amendments, re-negotiations, and terminations of existing collaborations

  • Effectively manage direct reports (if any) and provide mentorship across team and internal stakeholders

  • Thought leader for TA and alliances’ point of contact for some partnership C-level executives and senior counterpart

  • Present on behalf of BMS and engage with collaboration peers in industry conferences

  • Advise BD on relevant contract terms for new partner opportunities

  • Ability to work off business hours due to time zone differences of alliance partners and internal colleagues

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years enterprise-level alliance management or third-party management experience with industry peers/ biotechs and 15 years pharmaceutical industry experience

  • Previous cross-functional experience is required as this position requires a high degree of leading interactions with teams encompassing Translational Medicine, R&D Development, Worldwide Commercialization, Global Manufacturing teams and Finance.

  • Highly collaborative, track record of building and maintaining cross-functional relationships, and able to communicate business topics and influence effectively with senior management and cross-cultures

  • Demonstrated ability to drive resolution of conflict with poise and exercise diplomacy

  • MBA or equivalent preferred
