U.S. Coast Guard HVAC Equipment Mechanic, WG-5306-10 in Portsmouth, Virginia


This position is located in Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard,Deputy Commandant for Mission Support,Director of Operational Logistics, Office of Base Operations (DOL-3),Base Portsmouth, Portsmouth,VA.


As an HVAC Equipment Mechanic, this position is responsible forthe maintenance, repair, modifications, overhaul, installation, layout, and inspection of a variety of air conditioning, industrial and domestic refrigeration, and heating equipment, including hot water and steam boilers of various sizes and types (both installed and temporary).

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Installing, repairing, and maintaining domestic heating equipment systems.

Working on low-pressure home heating systems employing electronic monitoring, sequencing, and modulating controls.

Installing and troubleshooting small domestic and commercial air conditioning systems.

Replacing major portions of various cooling units, such as compressors, condensers, expansion valves, float and service valves, thermostats, soils, and drive assemblies.

Tightening connections, making splices, insulating exposed wires and cleans and lubricates moving parts; tests for proper operation and replaces items such as belts, fans and fuses.


Conditions of Employment

U.S. Citizenship is required.

Pre-employment physical/Meet physical physical requirements required.

This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

The position requires a valid state driver's license.
