Oregon Health & Science University Advanced Practice Provider (PA or NP): NSICU & CVICU in Portland, Oregon
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides patient care in a multidisciplinary team model in both the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) as well as the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). The APP faculty works in partnership with faculty physicians, fellows and residents to provide excellent clinical care and customer service. The APP faculty works in conjunction with other faculty and OHSU leadership to promote OHSU’s missions of excellence in patient care, teaching, research, and public service as well as the strategic goals to excel in patient safety, quality, cost-effective, and efficient care.
The Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit treats critically ill patients with neurological injuries. Care in the NSICU follows evidence-based guidelines and clinical pathways developed by the multidisciplinary team. The APP faculty is expected to work a fair share of night and weekend shifts. Duties of the position include:
Assessment and treatment of patients in the NSICU under the direction of a critical care trained physician faculty.
Rounding on patients in the Neurological ICU with faculty, fellows and residents and developing and implementing clinical plans of care
Working with hospital and unit staff to develop and implement discharge plans for patients in the ICU, and promote patient health through education and counseling.
Timely and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
Participation in all relevant conferences and team meetings.
Collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary and interprofessional care team to continuously improve quality of care.
Orientation and education of trainees and nursing staff on the care standards and protocols in the NSICU.
Education of nursing staff, fellows, residents and medical students in formal and informal settings.
Delivery of care in a manner compliant with the regulations and guidelines by the relevant regulatory bodies.
Treating all patients and co-workers with dignity and respect in alignment with the OHSU Code of Conduct.
Academic and professional development through attendance and/or participation at national/regional conferences is encouraged. The APP faculty may participate in a program of scholarly research activity directed toward improved understanding of the causes, detection, and treatment of diseases. May also engage in public service through collaborative consultative activities with OHSU and non-University groups as approved by the Chair or supervisor.
Successful completion of a Master Degree in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing in the specialty of Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP), or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG ACNP) from an accredited program
Current RN and NP licensure with the Oregon Board of Nursing
Current ANCC Certification in the area of specialization
Current ACLS certification
Successful completion of a Master Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program
Current PA licensure with the Oregon Medical Board
Current NCCPA Certification
Current ACLS certification
Previous experience as provider in critical care setting, ideally with focus on neurological injuries.
Education directed at critical care.
Interest in learning advanced clinical skills required to practice in the ICU environment.
Interest in further developing leadership skills
