Job Description

The buyer role performs transactions and coordinates internal and external activities related to the procurement and distribution of materials, direct and indirect, to assure production teams have the material they need to maintain a continuous flow in support of our customer demands.

Responsibilities Include:

• Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies, equipment, and services accordingly.

• Manage supplier established stocking programs for direct material to assure on time delivery and continuous flow of production.

• Collaborates with other departments for purchase requirements in support of product transfers from R&D into production

• Ability to research and plan material requirements to support large orders outside of normal production flow.

• Works with vendors to negotiate best price while maintaining a strong working relationship.

• Monitors market and identifies changes in currently used product and works with internal customers for alternative

• Work with receiving and vendors to process non-compliant material

• Develop, implement, and manage supplier score cards

• Assist in oversight of inventory movement and accuracy, troubleshoot variances as needed, provide input regarding safety stock levels, standard lead times, and other item master data to manager.

• Interact with Accounts Payable to ensure all backup documents have been provided and suppliers are paid according to terms.

• Maintain purchasing module for accuracy

• Maintain purchasing records in support of established retention requirements

• Identifies opportunities for savings

• Manage and audit kanban systems for MRO supplies

• Bid major MRO segments annually

• Available to support all business areas as needed.

• Additional support functions as required.

Reports To: Purchasing Manager

Skills Required:

• Excellent attention to detail and able to set a high standard for quality

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, emphasis on Outlook, Word, and Excel

• Ability to multi-task, respond quickly to change, and maintain calm under pressure

• Ability to communicate effectively, work smoothly with a team, cooperate with and support co-workers

• Negotiation and networking skills

• People, organizational and time management skills.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree

• 3-4 years previous purchasing experience

• Previous experience within a manufacturing environment is a plus
