I. Basic Purpose:
Performs a variety of multi-skilled duties to assist in the rehabilitative treatment of patients as directed and supervised by licensed Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology staff.
II. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Complies with established corporate and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance methods, and safety codes. Demonstrates compliance with licensing, regulatory and accrediting agency provisions as required.
Consistently demonstrates appropriate and professional communication behavior toward patients, customers, and coworkers. Cooperates with Management and peers to promote an environment of teamwork and collaboration.
Transfers and escorts patients to and from Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology programs.
In accordance with Department Standards and documented level of competency, assists in conducting specified treatment activities; observes patients in treatment activities and reports observations to supervisor.
Prepares treatment areas: sets up and removes equipment and supplies; ensures equipment is functioning properly and stored appropriately; maintains an established inventory of supplies.
Assists patients concerning the use of walkers, parallel bars, exercise equipment, ADL equipment and exercise programs under the direction of Therapists and Licensed Assistants.
Communicate with team members regarding patient's response to treatment.
Care of IV's and O2 tanks.
Performing range of motion, therapeutic exercises and physical modalities under direct supervision.
Performs clerical tasks; maintains statistics, inputs patient charges, answers phone, assists with patient scheduling.
Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
Attends meetings as required.
Maintains annual mandatory education requirements specific to position as mandated by Martin Memorial Health Systems.
Performs all other duties as assigned or requested.
III. Minimum Requirements (experience, training, and education):
To effectively fulfill this position, candidate must meet the following requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent education mandatory; some post high school education desirable;
Sufficient clinical patient care experience in a similar setting required;
Certification as a CNA, PCT, or previous rehab tech experience preferred;
Current acceptable CPR certification: American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider OR American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer required;
Must have excellent communication skills and be able to work with patients of all ages.
