Honeywell Master's AI Research Scientist Intern in Plymouth, Minnesota
The Safe Autonomous Systems (SAS) Advanced Technology team is seeking an Intern to join our autonomous systems development team for the summer of 2021. Candidates should be in pursuit of a Master’s (or PhD) degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Aeronautical (Aerospace) or Electrical Engineering. The primary location for this position is our Plymouth, MN research laboratory. Candidates will join the team responsible for technology development, and perform supporting tasks on technical projects.
The SAS Advanced Technology team conducts development of safe autonomous technologies with a focus on aerial vehicles. Important research areas include technologies for sensing and sensor fusion, perception, positioning and navigation in unconstrained environments with degraded/denied GPS, route/path planning and execution in dynamic environments, and sensor fusion algorithms. Additional high value areas of research include design, analysis and inference, utilizing machine learning, computer vision, knowledge of 3D simulation, and in general artificial intelligence techniques.
Experience particularly relevant to this position include: sensor fusion for navigation, vision/Radar/LIDAR based navigation, SLAM; motion planning for holonomic and non-holonomic vehicles in cluttered (dynamic) environments; object recognition and image segmentation using both ‘classical’ image based methods and emerging techniques based on deep learning. Experience in implementing algorithms in C++ or Python using the Robot Operating System (ROS) is a strong plus. Candidates will perform tasks under leadership of senior staff.
YOU MUST HAVE
- Currently enrolled in a degree program pursuing a PHd or Master's in Engineering, Computer Science, or Robotics
Excellent C++ and Python skills
Hands on projects and experience with ROS 1 and 2, writing both Python and C++ nodes
TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, and similar deep learning frameworks/libraries
Projects and experience with different Neural Networks such as CNNs, LSTMs, RNNs, etc…
Hands on experience with OpenCV
Hands on projects and experience with different Computer Vision techniques
Experience with Linux
Experience with embedded systems such as the Nvidia Jetson platforms
Experience integrating, calibrating and working with data from sensors such as RADAR, LIDAR, EO and IR Cameras, IMUs and GPS receivers
Experience in understanding and implementing state of the art algorithms
Experience integrating guidance, navigation, and control systems for small unmanned air systems (UAS)
Experience in developing, implementing and testing novel algorithms for autonomous systems and presenting at relevant conferences.
