3M HIS Computational Linguist / Machine Learning Scientist Intern - R01032816 DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:Job Description:3M HIS Computational Linguist / Machine Learning Scientist Intern Collaborate with Innovative 3Mers Around the World3M is seeking a Computational Linguist with strong Machine Learning knowledge as Intern for the Health Information Systems Division. Join our team of international researchers and engineers to help improve patient care and clinical workflows by advancing our conversational assistant technology. We are looking for someone who is familiar with research methodologies -- devising, implementing and evaluating algorithms andndash; and experienced with different machine learning approaches, like Deep Learning, in the context of Natural Language Processing. An internship is a temporary position within 3M. Interns typically work a full-time schedule throughout a 10-12 week assignment. This position is limited to working 899 hours per service credit year. 3M provides eligible interns with temporary housing and round-trip travel reimbursement in accordance with current policy. This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career. The Impact You'll Make in this RoleAs a Machine Learning Scientist Intern, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by: * Critical thinking and development of solutions for natural language (NL) applications. * Developing and/or applying statistical modeling techniques; in particular, deep learning, optimization, and other ML techniques to advance the healthcare documentation process. * Researching and implementing novel ML and statistical approaches to add value to the business. Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications: * Must be accepted to or currently enrolled in an MS or Ph.D. program in Computational Linguistics, Machine Learning, or Computer Science * Must have at least one NLP/ML paper submitted or published (e.g. ACL, EMNLP, InterSpeech, ICML, NeurIPS, or arXiv) * Two (2) years of experience programming in languages such as Python or Java * One (1) year of experience with Unix/Linux environments Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include: * Currently pursuing a PhD in Machine Learning, Computational Linguistics or related field. * Hands on experience with deep learning toolkits and frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow. * Ability to think creatively and solve challenging problems. * Excellent software development experience and problem-solving skills. * Publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals. Location: Internships will be based remotely.
