Job Role and Responsibilities

In today’s enterprise environments geo-distributed applications, services and data and services and need to be dynamically relocate when resources become scarce. Consequently, there is a growing need to exchange east-west data over a long-haul WAN. Such future WAN traffic may include application cloud-bursting, data replication, accessing remote data for data analytics and moving updated ML models to edges.

Your focus on traffic redundancy elimination (TRE) which is based on distributed dedup technology. While TRE is at the heart of legacy WAN optimizations products alls short in meeting the new environment. Your main task in this project is to explore ways to accelerate the TRE process to common WAN link rates. For example, we likely to employ multi-core parallelism and efficient transfer mechanism like DPDK.

In this project, your primary responsibilities would include conducting basic and applied research on important and challenging open systems problems, along with engagement with the academic and wider research community. You have a history of systems research demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed venues such as top journals and conferences. You will define and pursue creative research agendas with significant impact on both VMware and the broader research community.

Required Skills

  • You are pursuing a PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent field.

  • Familiarity with networking concepts such as TCP, NICs

  • Familiarity with high-performance networking concepts

  • Familiarity with Linux kernel, Knowledgeable in core operating systems concepts (file systems, scheduling, drivers, memory management)

  • Proven experience programming in C and C+ Category : University and Recent Grads
