Reporting into Governance and Oversight, within the Central Risk & Controls Office (CRCO), supporting the CRCO Directors in the successful implementation of strategic initiatives to define BURCO Roles/Responsibilities, establish change management procedures, and oversight and management of sustainable controls, solutions to mitigate risk, and programs to enhance consistent execution of Operational Risk Framework across MUFG in the U.S. (“the enterprise”). Additionally, you will review issue remediation plans for complex issues considering cross-function and cross-entity dependencies and ensure issue milestones are being achieved. You will ensure completeness and accuracy of issue data in the system of record for an assigned portfolio of issues, ensure compliance with Operational Risk Framework including Issue Management Policy and Procedure, provide subject matter expertise on internal controls, and provide general support to CRCO management, as required.
Support the CRCO management to define BURCO Roles/Responsibilities and ensure completeness of risk activities, as well as other responsibilities pertinent to the role.
Support the establishment of a formal change management process in order to support the BURCOs in reviewing and challenging new requests or requirements or changes to existing workload.
Support the development of assessing BURCO performance with respect to the defined Roles/Responsibilities, both qualitatively and quantitatively. This includes performance of the Operational Risk Framework across the enterprise.
Support the Governance & Oversight team in advising the Business Unit Risk and Control Office on the execution of Second Line of Defense programs primarily related to operational risk
Monitor to ensure that risk management activities are performed and completed.
Support FLOD and support units, legal entity leaders, and risk and control teams throughout the Issue Management Lifecycle to ensure:
Issue remediation target dates agreed to are reasonable and include consideration of execution complexity, control effectiveness and sustainability requirements, dependencies, resource availability and time required for review and challenge and validation.
Effective review and challenge occurs for proposed new or changed design of internal controls, policies or frameworks before implementation.
Ensure the system of record has complete and accurate data required to generate transparent and accurate reporting on the status of all issues.
Perform reviews and verification of issue management documentation to validate compliance with Issue Management Policy and Procedure.
Perform quality review of issue remediation status report ratings (e.g.: Red, Amber, Green or “RAG”) against defined criteria.
Review documentation of execution risks and issues associated with the remediation of issues to ensure they are clear and are raised to the appropriate CRCO Director.
Support CRCO Issue Management Directors and CRCO Management in trend analysis to identify common themes regarding delays or risks associated with timely remediation of issue.
Support CRCO management with preparation of materials for regularly and ad-hoc management meetings related to the remediation of issues including with senior management and oversight committees as required.
Assist BURCOs to prepare for regulatory exams by advising regulatory responses and actions across the FLOD.
Work with the Practices, Methodology, and QA team to ensure BURCOs are provided with the appropriate templates, forms, and other documentation necessary to complete FLOD risk and control activities.
A BA/BS degree from a 4-year college
3 years of Banking or Financial Services industry experience
Experience in a Bank Line of Business, Controls, Internal Audit, or Risk Management preferred
Direct experience in controls deficiency identification, complex RCSA testing, or issue remediation.
Experience with large programs or projects including the following is desired:
Process re-design and/or development of governance frameworks, committees, policies, etc.
Fast turnaround, tight timelines, and/or crisis management environments
Experience in remediating regulatory issues
Strong proficiency in MS Office including Excel and Power Point is critical
Experience and working knowledge of Open Pages or a centralized issue management system is helpful, but not required
Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in writing and verbally with all levels.
Excellent critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
Ability to quickly build rapport, credibility, trust, and respect, and be viewed as a standout colleague.
Ability and experience leading meetings, by phone, in person, video, etc.
