Thomas Jefferson Univ Post Doctoral Fellow - Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology - Lab of in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Reference #: 9242336An NIH funded post-doctoral position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Dmitry Temiakov, at Thomas Jefferson University to study structural aspects of human mitochondrial gene expression (Hillen et al, Cell 2017 171(5)1072; Hillen et al, Cell 2017, 171(5) 1082; Agaronyan et al., Science 2015, 347:6221, Ringel et al, Nature 2011, 478: 269). The laboratory is located in a newly renovated space of the Department of Biochemistry and has access to core resources for bioimaging, cancer research and structural biology. The Structural Biology core facility has recently acquired Thermo Scientificandtrade; Glaciosandtrade; Cryo-Transmission Electron Microscope equipped with Falcon 4 Direct Electron Detector. We seek to recruit a post-doctoral fellow with an interest in utilizing high-resolution single particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryoEM) to study structural aspects of mitochondrial transcription and replication. Applicants should have experience in structural biology (preferably cryoEM) and molecular biology. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing cloning, gene expression and purification of proteins. Perform biochemical and biophysical characterization of protein complexes. Perform crystallization trials and prepare grids. Collect and analyze diffraction and cryoEM data, build a model and refine a structure.Jefferson Health delivers state of the art healthcare services to patients throughout the Delaware Valley and southern New Jersey.
