Position Description :
The Colo-rectal Surgery Service within the Clinical Practices at the University of Pennsylvania (CPUP) has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join their team of board certified Colon and Rectal Surgeons and Advanced Practice Providers. The colo-rectal team at CPUP is part of the Department of Surgery and provides care to patients undergoing surgery for disorders including but not exclusive to colorectal & anal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, & various anorectal diseases.
As an NP/PA on this service you will be part of a high functioning inter-professional team who is responsible for the management of complex colorectal surgical patients. Responsibilities for the NP/PA who joins our team will include outpatient management, clinical and complex decision making, procedures according to credentialing, independent outpatient clinics for post-operative and pre- operative patients, hemorrhoid management, and complex wound and ostomy management. This role also includes transitions in care, care coordination, team collaboration, and education of patients, family and staff. In addition, the provider will participate in research as applicable, ensure regulatory compliance, document care according to standards, and prescribe in accordance with their collaborative agreement and State regulations.
The NP/PA, will provide quality care across the continuum in collaboration with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, nursing staff, and other members of the care team, and be expected to manage patient care autonomously within the scope of their professional practice. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the role also involves participation in the Department’s Quality Improvement initiatives. Opportunities for professional growth and development are available through research, lecturing, publications, and involvement with departmental and hospital projects and committees.
All CRNP’s and PA-C’s function under the guidelines designed by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center medical staff guidelines and are credentialed through that body. The CRNP or PA hired will be held accountable through a formal job description, the delineation of privileges, and their agreement with their collaborating/supervising physician who has initiated a Collaborative Practice Agreement.
Minimum Requirements :
Licensed to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, M.S.N, and certification as a nurse practitioner.
Prior to employment, the CRNP must be reviewed by the Credentials Committee and approved by the Medical Board.
Licensed to practice as a physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, M.H.S., and certification as a physician assistant.
Prior to employment, the PA must be reviewed by the Credentials Committee and approved by the Medical Board.
Monday to Fridays with on-call responsibilities. Hours of work determined by the Clinical Service to meet the needs of patient care. Hospital continuing education to meet the requirements of the system and as per JCAHO. Minimum requirements for continuing education as outlined by credentialing agency and State Board of Nursing.
