JOB SUMMARY:The Resident Care Director (RCD) supervises and manages the essential roles in the nursing department to assure high quality care, customer satisfaction and fiscal responsibility with knowledge of the NYSDOH Assisted Living regulations. The RCD coordinates the duties and tasks of the staff to meet the needs of each resident, provides necessary medication assistance and enhances quality of life of residents.


  • Assures the appropriate supervision and assistance of residents in regulated housing for a licensed ALR, EALR and SNALR program.

  • Monitors the staff performance with activities of daily living, medication management and personal emergency response.

  • Observes the physical, emotional, social and cognitive functioning levels of residents and coordinates with the case manager to assure retention standards are being met.

  • Informs the physician and families of changes in the resident’s status and ensures that the physician’s instructions regarding care/ medications are followed.

  • In the absence of the Care Manager, assists in reviewing the NYSDOH required medical evaluation and ensures completeness prior to the resident’s admission.

  • Completes the functional assessment (FA) in the case manager’s absence and/ or reviews the FA prior to the resident’s admission.

  • Conducts interviews of prospective staff applicants and makes recommendations regarding hiring based on the position control.

  • Delivers progressive disciplinary action in a timely fashion and maintain appropriate documentation per human resource policies.

  • Supports staff development activities that will enhance staff performance.

  • Ensures that medication records related to physician orders, including new prescriptions and medication changes, match the monthly electronic medication administration records (eMAR’s) and ensures all medication orders are signed.

  • Ensures that resident care assistants (RCAs) follow eMAR instructions and that staff assists and documents in the eMAR in accordance with NYS department of health regulations.

  • Accepts on-call duty on a rotational basis to handle resident and program emergencies.

  • Conducts in-service training for resident care assistants.

  • Ensures that resident care assistants follow employee policies and procedures.

  • Establishes quality assurance systems to monitor all care and services for the residents.

  • Conducts frequent audits regarding the nursing program, and presents results to the management team.

  • Updates policies and procedures regarding the nursing department as needed.

  • On-call responsibilities as RN of the Nursing Services

EXPECTATIONS:The RCD communicates all pertinent information to staff in a timely, meaningful and inspiring manner. The RCD works cooperatively with the ESLC corporate department heads. The RCD is innovative, creative and interactive while implementing programs or changes. The RCD ensures that all residents are treated with compassion, dignity and respect. All employee or resident information is considered confidential.


QUALIFICATIONS: Requires current NYS RN Licensurewith excellent clinical and assessment skills who is experienced in team building. Supervisory skills must include discipline, performance appraisal, coaching and staff development. Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, vendors and the public is a necessity.

Basic computer skills are necessary including but not limited to the ability to create, save, open, close and edit electronic documents and emails and the ability to operate a laptop or desktop computer within a Windows OS. Experience with EMRs is required.

EDUCATION: Completion of an approved program of professional registered nursing required. Bachelors degree in Nursing, Management or related field.

EXPERIENCE:Five (5) years’ experience working with older adults and managing staff.

Performing duties of this job requires occasional sitting, walking and standing in and around the reception area, and lobby. Must be able to occasionally lift loads of 50 pounds without assistance and the ability to sit, talk, and hear is required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The majority of essential job duties are performed indoors, in a normal office environment. Employee may be exposed to temperature fluctuations.

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP:The work is performed within established guidelines, and requires periodic supervision. The employee exercises some initiative and independent judgment to effectively perform the essential job duties of this position.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR OTHERS:Employee provides direct supervision of nurses and resident care staff.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:Shall be fully acquainted with all safety policies and procedures of Seabury Woods. Takes an active role in all fire drills during the shift and/or emergencies for internal and external disasters as monitored by supervisor and incident manager. Must comply with facility in-service requirements.

Maintain confidentiality of all information related to the organization, residents, participants, family and staff, that may be encountered, either formally or informally, during the normal course of business. This includes medical and treatment records, financial and human resources information.
