Zoetis Data Engineer in Parsippany, New Jersey

Position Summary:
Zoetis has created a new Data and Digital Platform (DDP) team that is driving a step change in the company's ability to harness data, particularly data generated by the expanding portfolio of Digital Products, to generate disruptive data insights for our customers and colleagues. As the world leader in animal health, Zoetis seeks to integrate Data and Analytics with its diverse portfolio of animal health products to create additional value to customers and enhance overall customer experience.

In your new role within the DDP team, you will have the opportunity to address greenfield opportunities to apply IoT, data analytics, data science and machine learning in the animal health space. Our view of analytics spans from the sensor data collection and analysis on the edge, to the delivery of data insights that help optimize and, in some cases, automate the decision-making process. You will partner with world-class experts in animal health to develop innovative digital and analytics products. The team is leveraging the best-in-class analytics and IoT tools and techniques, and you will have the opportunity to hone you experience with them and help evolve our application of them.

Responsibilities:
o Develop data integration workflows (both batch and streaming) on Microsoft Azure and Zoetis' own DDP platform software, utilizing both no-code and code approaches
o Operate effectively in an Agile/Scrum and DevOps environment
o Test and validate data workflows against real-world data (in scope, volume, etc.)
o Analyze and document the end-user requirements for analytical datasets; provide high-level design and solution concepts that address the need
o Contribute to the evolution of the Zoetis' Dimensional Data Model by onboarding the new business processes per Kimball methodology, and by adding new dimension features
o Collaborate with source system experts to understand the nuances surrounding the data, including the underlying business process that generate the data and known quality issues
o Monitor the execution performance of batch workflows to identify scalability issues and opportunities for improving and optimizing performance
o Re-implement existing non-scalable workflows as horizontally-scalable versions
o Develop and maintain the ability to implement data workflows in a variety of tools that balance the speed of development, understandability, performance and scalability
o Assist Data Consultants / Business Intelligence specialists with designing analytical datasets that meet specific analytical product requirements (dashboards, reports, etc.)
o Assist Data Scientists with designing data input and outputs for analytical modules (predictive, machine learning, etc.) and implementing these modules as another type of data workflow

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
o Experience with developing data workflows in multiple tools and languages (SQL, Spark, Map/Reduce, traditional ETL tools, Alteryx, etc.)
o Experience with at least one scripting or programming language (Python, R, Java, C#, etc.)
o Experience with the SQL language, particularly complex SELECT statements
o Demonstrated subject matter competency and fluency (from the data perspective) in at least one functional area of business
o Experience with ETL Tools are a must (Microsoft Azure Data Factory & Azure Data Bricks)
o Experience with the dimensional modeling approach (Kimball), from both consumption / use and design perspectives
o Ability to design 3NF data models and/or UML class diagrams based on a statement of product requirements and interviews with subject matter experts
o Experience with Alteryx is a plus
o Experience with at least one popular self-service BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, etc.
o Experience with source control and collaboration tools (e.g. git and Azure DevOps)
o Experience with operating in an Agile and DevOps environment is a plus
o Excellent critical thinking and reasoning skills, particularly as applied to tracing data issues
o Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new concepts and technologies
o Passion for solving complex problems and making a difference
o Ability to drive a project and work both independently and in a team
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills, which includes the ability to present complex topics to non-technical audiences
o Fluency in English required

Education:
o Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field

Experience:
Minimum 5 years of experience in a closely related field and role
