Alta Vista Animal Hospital offers 24-hour Emergency/Critical Care services, a full service General Practice and a Specialty/Referral Department. Our board certified specialists provide care in surgery, ophthalmology, cardiology, oncology, neurology, dermatology, internal medicine and dentistry and have access to on-site MRI and CT diagnostics. With a dedicated staff of 160, including 30 veterinarians, we offer excellence in veterinary medicine because we are passionate about what we do!

VCA Canada Alta Vista Animal Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a fixed term Veterinary Technician to join our established specialty services as a float technician for 12 months. You will have an opportunity to use your skills to the fullest potential in a scheduled rotation throughout our six specialty services. Our VT’s are given the necessary tools and resources to be successful in pursuing multiple passions within our hospital. You will have opportunities to expand your learning through extensive exposure and involvement to many specialty cases. Additional qualifications and attributes you must embrace to be successful in this role;

  • Registered Veterinary Technician or eligible to register

  • Support the Surgery, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Cardiology, Dermatology and Ophthalmology services

  • Point of contact between Veterinarian, Pet Owner and Referring Veterinarians

  • Educate Pet Owner on; home-care, follow-up, nutrition and general information

  • Experience with and willing to enhance technical skills; anesthesia, CRI’s, epidurals and mechanical ventilators

  • Responding to pet owner’s questions and concerns face to face, via the telephone and email

  • Ability to thrive in a steady and often fast paced environment

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills in working with your colleagues and pet parents

  • Proven ability to keep accurate patient records

  • Strong ability to problem-solve
