Mathy Construction Company Laboratory Equipment Technician in Onalaska, Wisconsin

We are seeking a qualified Lab Equipment Technician to join our innovative construction team!

POSITION SUMMARYThe Laboratory Equipment Technician will be responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of equipment in Mathy’s 30+ laboratories. The candidate will support QC Technicians and QC Managers of all divisions regarding equipment issues. The candidate will also provide insight on lab setups and make recommendations regarding ergonomics, economics, and lab safety. The candidate will work with management to recommend equipment replacement and purchasing.The Laboratory Equipment Technician supports field efforts, evaluates equipment calibration methods and standards, reviews statistics and trends, and tracks and maintains data. This full-time position will be based at the main lab in Onalaska, WI. Travel will be required to the satellite labs throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The employee will work with management for scheduling with the divisions for their equipment maintenance/repair needs. The candidate may test Hot Mix Asphalt and Aggregate as needed.

Job duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain lab equipment including Gyratory Compactors, Burn Ovens, Scales, Mix Ovens, HVAC Equipment, Aggregate Shakers, etc.

  • Trouble shoot and lead repair efforts for malfunctioning lab equipment

  • Coordinate with various manufacturers to understand best practices

  • Participate in company internal audits by checking various equipment calibrations and compliance with Mathy Construction’s Quality Manual

  • Evaluate lab ergonomics and report/suggest changes to management to improve employee health and efficiency

  • Evaluate lab safety and identify potential hazards including but not limited to slip, fall, burn, electrical shock, fire, etc.

  • Track equipment expenses and analyze cost trends

  • Oversee and participate in annual equipment calibrations

  • Track equipment for replacement and report needs to management

  • Be available as a backup QC Technician if required

  • Help train/develop equipment task training programs for new employees

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree preferred from an accredited program in electronics, computer science, or mechanical field

  • or a High school diploma or (GED) required with minimum of 5 years of pertinent experience

  • Pertinent experience includes but is not limited to electronics trouble shooting and repair, mechanical systems experience, experience calibrating or checking calibrations of equipment

  • Ability to become certified for State Agency testing programs

  • Experience working in a lab setting preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Programs

  • Ability to read and understand engineering specifications and drawings as well as user manuals

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment

  • Complies with all federal, state and local guidelines

  • Ability to travel using company vehicle, including overnight stays as required
