Waste Management Billing Clerk - Oakland, CA in Oakland, California

Job Summary:

  • Communicates concise and accurate information.

  • Establishes customer accounts in MAS. Confirms understanding of customer needs, issues and requests.

  • Serves as the customer’s advocate by solving problems on the customer’s behalf by engaging the right department and people within Waste Management.

  • Uses authorized system to gather and provide information and/or update customer records.

  • Provides standard information and education regarding service options, charges, billing and contracts.

  • Issues calls to customers as needed to ensure issues are resolved to customer satisfaction and follow up on customer issues.

  • Communicates and coordinates with sales and operations departments to ensure follow-up on set-ups, and other customer related issues.

  • Run queries to perform certain Billing tasks.

  • Review/document/correct errors identified.

  • Contact customers to communicate changes in service if needed.

  • Assist in changes prior to billing as needed, such as bill cycle changes, company codes, price groups.

  • Calculates billing prorates prior to billing schedules.

  • Runs billing reports prior to billing to ensure correct prior to billing.

  • Run billing process for cycles in both libraries.

  • May perform relief upon occasion for Cashiers in Oakland and Hayward offices.

  • May prepares cash logs, bank deposits and reconciliations.

  • May process daily bank deposits/keep and update daily deposit logs

  • May assist incoming customers, processes customer requests, serves as the end-to-end point of contact for customers, and resolves customer issues.

  • May perform input of accounts for Fastlane and update pricing for outbound products.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience

Education: High School Diploma or GED (accredited).

Experience: 2 years previous experience in Customer Service.

Internal candidates must be performing in an above average capacity in their current position, be an employee in good standing and have worked at WM for 12 months.

Desired: 2+ years of billing and accounts payable experience

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process; must be able to convey information and ideas clearly

  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Requires excellent telephone and face-to-face communication skills

  • Strong ability to work well with people, under pressure and with stringent time restraints

  • Must have quick problem solving ability

  • Must possess basic computer skills in a Windows environment, including intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, data entry and ten key

  • Basic math skills required.

  • Good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work and time.

  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with coworkers, customers, and vendors.

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and in a team environment.

  • Desired: Proficient in AS/400

  • Desired: Proficient typing skills, approx. 40 wpm

Normal setting for this job is: office setting.

  • Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 7 or more hours per day. Must be able to stand at the front counter for up to 7 or more hours per day. Walking and standing are required the rest of the working day.

  • Must be able to utilize telephone headset.

  • Sedentary work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.

  • Must have finger dexterity to be able to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, 10-key adding machine, multi-line touch tone phone, filing cabinets, Fax machines, photocopiers, dolly and other office equipment as needed.
