Kaiser Permanente Accountant Senior Specialist in Oakland, California
Responsible for the recording of daily transactions relating to cash transactions, accounts payable transactions, payroll transactions and premium and claims transactions, for the completion of accurate and timely accounting records and for the production of financial and regulatory reports, based on those records. Other responsibilities include performing account analysis, preparing account reconciliations, preparing accounting statements and reports, and coordination and management of account reporting and filings. Plans, coordinates and resolves accounting matters with other Accounting members, departments, locations and divisions. Accounting policies and procedures are established to ensure that all financial transactions are executed and documented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Findings and recommendations are presented to senior management.
Assists in establishing financial strategic objectives as well as operating policies and procedures to ensure attainment of corporate objectives.
Evaluates results within business units to determine if financial objectives are being met. Establishes and coordinates responsibilities and procedures among subordinate divisions and departments. Maintains relationships with lending institutions, shareholders and the financial community.
Responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of financial policies and procedures. Responsible for accurate and legal financial practices and reporting.
Establishes and maintains appropriate analytical tools, information systems, and models of cost behavior to ensure effective and efficient management of resources.
Reviews working capital/cash flow requirements on a regular basis. Presents operating and capital expenditure budgets for review and approval by board. Directs and coordinates the establishment of budgets.
Ensures that finance plans and policies are understood and administered by the management team.
Assumes other special projects/assignments as directed.
Minimum ten (10) years of accounting experience.
Experience in a large corporate environment.
Experience with development/implementation of financial systems.
Bachelor's degree in a related field, OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
Expertise in GAAP, internal controls, accounting procedures, payroll tax laws and project management.
Thorough knowledge of systems development life cycle, change control, quality assurance and database concepts.
Excellent spreadsheet (Excel), word processing (Word), and database (Access) skills required.
Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills required.
Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Experience in a large corporate environment with one of the big four accounting firms preferred.
Insurance industry experience highly desirable.
MBA highly preferred.
CPA highly preferred.
