Merck Global Scientific and Medical Publication Processes & Systems Lead in North Wales, Pennsylvania

Job Description

The Global Scientific and Medical Publications (GSMP) Processes and Systems Lead is a leadership role that reports directly to the Director of GSMP Operations. The Processes and Systems Lead is responsible for facilitating management and delivery of IT processes and systems in support of Publications, Clinical Literature Information Center, Research Library, and Scientific Nomenclature. The lead will work with GSMP management and MRL IT to identify, develop, and support department IT systems and applications. The lead will also collaborate with internal stakeholders across divisions to ensure that their needs are understood and addressed. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and pharma/biotech IT experience.


  • Is responsible for the long-term vision and strategy for GSMP business processes and systems, helping to drive business outcomes, while ensuring system continuity and inter-department content flow.

  • Is responsible for managing at least one employee and building talent. Manages project plans and stakeholder collaborations, IT account management, external vendors and GSMP functional roles to ensure timely deliverables executed in scope and within budget.

Process and Systems

  • Provides industry expertise and practical knowledge of current and emerging technologies and process approaches, including, but not limited to content management and systems integration.

  • Proactively identifies new capabilities and enhancements that will improve department productivity.

  • Is the executional lead for department analytics tools, including the Data Lake and Qlik analytics/reports.

  • Responsible for GSMP business systems and application catalogue, system ownership descriptions, business continuity and disaster recovery planning and documentation

  • Serves as department Microsoft productivity SME guiding GSMP use of Teams and other productivity tools.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience


  • BS in life sciences, business, or health care and 10 years work experience OR

  • MS in life sciences, business, or health care and 8 years work experience


  • 2 years of experience in one or more of the following: Pharmaceutical/biotech industry, IT account management, project management.

  • Organizational IT systems strategic planning and management experience.

  • SDLC (System Development Lifecycle) knowledge and experience, including business system requirements definition, User Acceptance Testing (UAT) preparation and execution, and Standard Operating Procedure authoring.

  • Experience with leading multiple system development projects simultaneously.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office productivity and project management software tools.

  • Excellent project management skills with proven ability to manage large projects from start to finish.

  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.

  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills with the ability to apply practical solutions to complex issues

  • Quick learner and self-starter.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office productivity and project management software tools

  • Excellent interpersonal communication (written/oral) and presentation skills


  • Familiarity with digital content management, library, and archival systems

  • Familiarity or experience with emerging technologies like Artificial intelligence (AI), natural language processing (NLP), and automation.
