The Global Compliance and Ethics organization at American Express plays a critical role in protecting the Company, the brand and colleagues through practical, solution-focused guidance on regulatory and ethics-related matters. A team of compliance officers work closely with the General Counsel’s Organization, business units, staff groups, and risk professionals across the company to provide standards and guidance in the development, implementation and maintenance of comprehensive compliance programs and to promote a strong risk management culture.

As a Vice President of Global Consumer Services Group Compliance, this person will play a critical leadership position within the Business Compliance team supporting U.S. Premium Consumer Card Products including The American Express Platinum Card, U.S. Pricing and Lending Capabilities, Dining and Global Consumer Travel. This person will provide strategic compliance expertise to drive innovation for the business while aligning with applicable laws and regulations for consumer products, features and processes. The compliance efforts for this position will have a particular focus on product development, marketing strategies, risk management initiatives, rewards and benefits, and customer communications.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Providing solution-oriented compliance guidance to assist business colleagues in reaching their goals while meeting compliance requirements.

  • Driving implementation of policy and regulatory requirements in the areas of UDAAP, general credit card practices, general banking, and other relevant federal, state and local regulations.

  • Managing all compliance program responsibilities associated with the annual compliance planning process.

  • Advising leaders on areas of emerging risk and approaches to improve necessary controls and practices as appropriate.

  • Partnering with key compliance and business partners cross the Enterprise such as the General Counsel's Organization, Audit and Operational Excellence groups.


  • Deep regulatory knowledge of the consumer financial regulations applicable to U.S. credit card products including Regulation Z and UDAAP.

  • Strong relationship and leadership skills with proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment in the development and selection of compliant solutions.

  • Proven experience of leading high performing teams while motivating and developing talent.

  • Excellent written, verbal, research, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong project management skills, ability to lead multiple projects and support multiple priorities simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently, work well under pressure, meet deadlines and adapt easily to frequent change.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.

  • Prior credit card industry, travel industry, compliance, legal or risk experience is a plus.
