Vice President, Retail Experience, Brand, and Image, MAC

Responsible for the global creative strategy, development and execution of all branding and creative initiatives. Ensure a strategic and cohesive brand image and philosophy, for new and existing customers, throughout the entire consumer journey. This position works with the Senior Vice President, Global Creative Director in the alignment of the brand vision across all touch points. The role will work with regional leadership and creative teams to inform and influence regional brand strategy and facilitate alignment in execution of priority store and key product launch designs. Key to this role will be building relationships across functions and regions, providing design direction and support to teams across the globe to bring innovative and engaging customer experience. This individual will direct a global department that is responsible for establishing, facilitating and maintaining workflow between Creative and other contributing departments while driving the brand message and image.


Provide Leadership and Streamline Collaboration

  • Work with the Senior Vice President to build and refine department strategy to continually improve on systems in the creative services area. Propose changes/innovations to workflow and production formats.

  • Hold regular status meetings with representatives from other departments to ensure efficient communication and coordination of job requests. Attend bi-weekly operational meetings.

  • Meet weekly with Industrial Design and Purchasing to ensure coordination and timely deliveries of displayer projects.

  • Lead and supervise team with projects and progress of production across all Brand Identity/Evergreen initiatives. Ensure timelines are established and met.

  • Maintain the flow and approval process of creative projects

  • Delegate and oversee the development of various one-off projects to broaden range of team’s workload and responsibilities.

  • Collaborate with Creative in driving coordination of all evergreen video projects, ensuring needs, timelines and budgets are met.

  • Establish quarterly meetings to review department systems, workload and supplier performance.

  • Oversee creative production from inception to completion on global Specialty Marketing initiatives, as well as partnering with global markets, direct the coordination, including multiple languages and product variations.

  • Keep up to date with graphic industry advancements in technology and resources in order to fully understand and collaborate on projects with Corporate Procurement.

  • Oversees the formulation and monitoring of branding concepts and applications to ensure that it reinforces the brand image.

  • Conceptualizes new and innovative ideas and presents to Creative Director.

  • Fosters idea-sharing and cross-communications with creative directors and heads of product marketing and product development.

  • Oversees the work of the creative department to ensure that it meets the brand aesthetics and image which includes working closely with Consumer Marketing, Visual Merchandising and Store Design and Special Events.

  • Develops the annual strategy plan for all areas of responsibility consistent with overall corporate and brand objectives and ensures that individual’s goals in the department support the plan.

  • Leads the departments to ensure that the corporate strategy is understood and embraced.

  • Represents the department at ELT meetings as appropriate.

  • In collaboration with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Commercial, Creative Design), provide creative input to formulate concepts and develop designs in driving overall brand strategy and storytelling

  • Oversee teams to develop global guidelines on design for regional Brand and RDDC adaptation

  • Collaborate across multiple regions and provide applicable input on opportunities for scale; leverage regionalization to achieve speed, agility, total cost of ownership efficiencies, quality, service and year over year savings

  • Foster seamless handoffs between design teams (i.e. Global Brand, Regional Brand, RDDC); establish global templates, checklists and coordination standards to facilitate regional adaptation.

  • Work to establish clearer system of validation, feedback and shared needs for global markets

  • Support continued innovation across regions, while in adherence to global design guidelines


  • Develops overall strategy for creative activities involving collaborations, collections and product launches.

  • Concept, design and execution of over 50 launches globally with an emphasis on regional and local relevance.

  • Responsible for 360-degree strategy for key collections including print collateral, Ecommerce, social, CRM, and event graphics and collateral.

  • Oversee design and execution of seasonal Trend Books, videos, collateral, animations, and trend presentations.

  • Responsible for MAC PRO and MAC AIDS FUND creative strategies and execution for print and digital.

  • Partners with COEs and regional Creative Directors to develop locally relevant assets for stores, campaigns, and digital/social

Innovate Design to Enhance Brand Retail Experience

  • Works with regions, RDDC, and COEs to calibrate regional efforts for store design and VM for MAC

  • Drive the Brand’s strategy and vision for retail design; oversee development and implementation of global SD and VM design source book

  • Oversee teams to develop VM SD designs for global flagship stores and priority programs

  • In collaboration with Global Retail and with input from Marketing and Commercial, identify market needs and develop innovative new solutions for visual merchandising and store engagement

  • Provide leadership to global VMSD teams designing across various consumer touchpoints (including ability to design for specialty-multi, free standing store, open-sell, pop up experiences, etc.)

  • Leverages deep expertise of competitive landscape and trends; encourages outside of the box thinking and consistently has finger on the pulse to drive a connected and integrated approach

  • Bring holistic perspective to the customer experience; partners with other Creative teams and Ecommerce to ensure omnichannel connectivity

  • Direct the design of stores with new digital technologies in mind to enhance in-store experience; fosters collaboration to implement new technologies in store (including working with different ELC groups)

Develop Talent and Manage Change

  • Managing change and leading teams to work with new concepts and ideas

  • Set model behavior on creative collaboration with other creative teams and other functions

  • Hire for the future philosophy; identify the skills that will move the Brand to be a leader in retail

  • Ensures the overall professional development of all employees within his/her area of responsibility.

  • Mentor and manage staff involved in the conceptualization, design, development and implementation of new creative solutions.


  • Responsible for analyzing job budgets. Monitor schedules as they pertain to due dates and budgets. Issue revised timelines/costs when necessary.

  • Collaborate with Senior Vice President on maintenance of department budget.


  • BA or BFA required

  • Minimum 15 years of work-related experience

  • Minimum 10 years progressive leadership experience with proven ability to lead and empower high performing teams to innovate and collaborate

  • Knowledgeable in technical drawings, 3D renderings, specific tools (e.g. InDesign, Photoshop and 3D modeling software)

  • Holistic 3D experiences; strong expertise in materials, manufacturing, and installation execution knowledge

  • Up to date on application of digital technologies

  • Luxury mindset; portfolio focused on beauty industry is a plus

  • Expertise across different forms of retail (e.g. free-standing store, specialty-multi, pop up, open sell, etc.)

  • Experience managing vendor relationships

  • Superior leadership skills with significant experience managing a team

  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills

  • Proven project management experience

  • Practiced negotiation skills

  • Proven ability to multi-task and plan effectively

  • Experience working in an international capacity
