B2B is a critical priority for the Global Merchant Services business, and American Express, and this role offers a prime opportunity to be part of a strategic growth industry at American Express. The National Client Group within Merchant Services – U.S., is responsible of overseeing the largest and most strategic U.S. – based Merchants/Suppliers. Our mission is to be warmly welcomed by Suppliers and help them grow.

The role of this Senior Manager, Client Management, B2B Advertisers/Technology, offers the opportunity to leverage strong relationship management, consultative selling and strategic thinking and account development skills to deliver incremental American Express spend while working in a challenging, collaborative environment. This portfolio offers the unique opportunity to see how various business products and services-- from courier to traditional B2B services-- move through the supply chain to the ultimate business buyers. Managing this portfolio provides the opportunity to evaluate B2B growth opportunities on American Express products, while developing marketing and other innovative opportunities.

The Senior Manager will focus on identifying, establishing, and growing long-lasting and mutually beneficial merchant relationships to further grow American Express share, identify new business opportunities, and enhance merchant satisfaction. Candidates considered for this position will demonstrate a robust strategic background, an ability to think innovatively, strong financial and analytical skills and the ability to lead in a fast-paced and highly complex/matrixed environment.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Drive charge volume growth, revenue and profitability using in-depth knowledge of merchant’s business/industry and GMS.

  • Devise strategic account plans to drive Supplier engagement, expand relationship contact maps, improve client satisfaction, and ultimately grow profitable American Express share.

  • Negotiate complex deals through firm understanding of B2B payments acceptance economics, profitability levers, and American Express assets

  • Demonstrate strong project management skills with internal partners and seamlessly multi-task, prioritize, and act with a sense of urgency for in-demand Suppliers

  • Consult with merchants on how to capitalize on the fast-paced evolving payments environment

  • Ensure premium level of servicing to dedicated account contacts

  • Cultivate and leverage relationships with across the Blue Box to identify and implement solutions to create net new CV and expand share within the accounts.

  • Further foster fun, positive team dynamics

  • Experienced relationship manager with proven ability to learn quickly, develop strong client relationships, sell-in initiatives and uncover new opportunities to grow revenue and share

  • Demonstrate executive presence internally and externally, with the ability to confidently lead Senior/C-level discussions with clients to influence client decision-making and drive timely results.

  • Excellent influence management skills and the ability to work collaboratively across a wide variety of external and internal partners

  • Strong negotiation skills

  • Project management skills and excellent ability to multi-task and prioritize

  • Strong verbal, written, and analytic skills; ability to manage effectively upstream

  • Highly developed communication skills with ability to tailor messages to different audience types internally and externally

  • Demonstrated analytical and creative problem-solving skills and proven financial acumen

  • Strong driver of results with both strategic thinking and tactical execution skills

  • Possess the ability to understand the unique challenges facing B2B merchants

  • Knowledge of B2B payments landscape and experience developing B2B marketing promotions a plus
