Interventional Radiology

Office: 3rd floor, Main Hospital 3E

Nurse Practitioner 7am-5:30pm

Overview

The interventional radiology nurse practitioner works collaboratively with interventional radiologists in the assessment and therapeutic treatment of patients. The NP serves as a key liaison between referring physicians, patients and radiologists, allowing for the optimal and efficient interdisciplinary coordination of services in the ambulatory and inpatient setting. The Interventional Radiology NP role includes:

  • Providing Pre- and Post-procedure assessment and education to patients and their families

  • Conducting history and physical exams

  • Serving as a liaison between referring physician and interventional radiologists.

  • Managing the ambulatory and inpatient procedure schedule

  • Ordering and interpreting labs results and prescribing medications

  • Initiating coordination of care between radiology modalities and inpatient floors

  • Managing and appropriately escalating post procedure issues, as needed

  • Inserting, evaluating and maintaining Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICCs)

  • Processing Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

  • Ordering and administrating of contrast agents and providing assessments for premedication for the delivery of contrast agents as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current NYS license and registration

  • Degree from an accredited school of nursing program

  • FNP board certification is required

  • BLS/ACLS certification

  • DEA license required upon hire

  • Infection Control certification

  • Completion of a child abuse recognition course
