Work in tandem with Senior Vice President in the innovation strategy and development of quality products and programs for the Eye, Collections and Collaborations categories. Must be extremely creative, technical, as well as a strong leader who can work independently as well as manage a team. Must be well versed in Color. Candidates must have 10 years of Product Development experience (notably in Makeup) and extremely strong in creating concepts, juggling multiple workstreams and launches, time management, team leadership, and have exceptional communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.


Strategy & Management:

  • Build eye category innovation strategy in accordance with the MAC brand and ELC Corporate innovation strategy/philosophy

  • Drive the creative development process for eye, collaborations, and collections categories from concept through launch, including concept development, research, presentation and execution of both calendar and off-calendar projects.

  • Address consumer insights & market opportunities via granular insights, data & analytics

  • Push Creativity and Innovation Sufficiency by Ideating with R D, Third-Party partners, Cross-Functional Teams, and Global Regions to Co-create Relevant Product launches that drive MAC’s business

  • Influence and help gain buy-in with MAC Global Leadership Team and Corporate Senior Management through participation in Corporate and Global Strategy and Regional Meetings

  • Identify breakthrough technologies and global product insights by participating in innovation summits in Canada, Melville, and Shanghai (w/ Tokyo)

  • Close existing gaps via commercial innovation, leveraging existing heroes & underleveraged assets, and create the market via big product innovation ideas & new breakthroughs

  • Refine Ideas and Drive Actions via Cross Functional Refinement & Amplification with MAC Regional Teams

  • Lead/manage a team of 4 to maintain MAC’s leadership position in the eye category: Commit to building capabilities and relevant skillsets that will develop, retain, and engage team. Focus on nurturing and growing talent by investing in their development and creating opportunities for growth.


  • Spearhead development of innovative formulas with robust concepts, providing marketing teams with bold story-telling tools and claims communication used in designing 360 launches capitalizing on market trends/growth opportunities, and ensuring wins in all key regions

  • Build out concepts based on White Space, Pure Technology, Competition, Local Relevant Insights, and reanimate and expand Hero Franchises while also infusing artist or consumer insights

  • Develop concepts designing the look, feel and performance of products to meet a strategic market need within the portfolio

  • Have a deep understanding of the makeup market/industry trends, from ingredient, texture, form, application, claims and storytelling aspect

  • Have finger on the pulse of the consumer and social media aspect of benefit, performance and package delivery trends. What is being used, how and why

  • Be able to visually and verbally communicate complex product concepts, positioning and attributes through PowerPoint (buzz word concept sheets) and product profiles

  • Create product claims roadmap for the launches, with strong execution of the clinical and sensory tests to lead the trend, smash the market competition and drive product differentiation and superiority amongst all categories and subcategories within Eye.

  • Work with marketing on product architecture and future innovation pipeline

  • Meet with Outside Vendors to curate external technologies and trends to fuel concepts and product category growth

  • Attend trend presentations, trade shows, and outside vendor meetings to seek breakthrough formula prototypes and track upcoming technical and color trends

  • Present concepts to cross-functional teams and senior leadership for approval and buy in

  • Ability to analyze and interpret sales data and consumer insights into sales trends, product innovation and portfolio insights


  • Own eye category expertise and technical development across all subcategories – Mascara, Liners, Brow and Eyeshadows.

  • Display high proficiency in developing innovation across all other categories (lip, face, etc) for Collections and Collaborations programs

  • Possess high level project management and prioritization skill set while working cross-functionally with internal teams to meet timelines (GBSC, Marketing, Creative Ops, GSR, Packaging, Claims, R D, and Legal)

  • Communicate and collaborate with R D on creating formulas meeting texture and performance needs

  • Drive priorities with R D by leading a bi-weekly touch base for enhanced communications

  • Manage Monthly Claims/R D touch base to manage process for developing strong product claims and creating the testing for claims. Work with R D and the Claims team to execute, while consulting Legal on verbiage and final claims

  • Collaborate and drive innovation with the Packaging team - marrying formulas with identified or newly created and differentiated packs and applicators

  • Collaborate and consult with the regions to understand need gaps, local claims and trends. Create global programs that have local relevance. Work intimately with APAC PD and Innovation HUBS to develop APAC specific products to win in each local market.

  • Manage a product through the production lifecycle upholding quality and safety from lab, to pilot to production

  • Oversee Eye Team’s distribution of formula sampling for internal meetings, creative needs, backstage and artist testing, regions, etc. to help cascade new product innovation

  • Attend and participate in Program Review and PPD meetings every other week

  • Manage relationships with outside vendors. Review and formulate with outside vendors depending on program needs. Oversee the entire development process with OV (including OV R D) to request QQs, achieve PFA and meet development milestones

  • Available as needed to develop/shade onsite at the lab

  • Liaise with QA to ensure standards for products are renewed to spec

  • Co-create demos, torture tests, before-and-after, technical diagrams and charts with R D scientific departments and the Creative Team to help sell the products

Communication and Messaging:

  • Able to translate scientific claims results to explain and sell in consumer-friendly language

  • Present product knowledge, benefits and positioning at sales meetings and retailer meetings

  • Maintain close working relationships with MAC Makeup Artists to test and co-develop as needed

  • Collaborate with Global Communications on talking points for product launches

  • Brief Consumer Marketing on product knowledge to influence and enhance digital and social facing marketing 360 plans

  • Work hand in hand with Editorial/Copy team to meet claims deadlines and product names ensuring accurate and appropriate verbiage

  • Collaborate with AT D to ensure training and artist materials are accurate and cohesive. Consult with AT D to inform product development needs including nomenclature and consumer/at counter insight



  • Relevant experience (10 years); makeup background preferred

  • Undergraduate College Degree or Higher

  • Strong technical skills in tactile/aesthetic development and evaluation of cosmetic products as well as the ability to communicate product understanding

  • Strong leadership skills with proven track record of management (references needed)

  • Good eye for aesthetics, color and trends

  • Ability to think creatively and brainstorm new ideas to stay ahead of the market curve

  • Excellent organizational, communication and management skills with a keen eye for detail.

  • Focused, solution-oriented, and flexible to handle priority pivots and juggle multiple programs.

  • Strong written, oral, and presentation-based communication skills.

  • Job requires both domestic and foreign travel

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point

  • Well versed in digital apps, social media sites, online activities and trends.
