It includes Bartleby Learn, which provides millions of step-by-step explanations to textbook problems and homework Questions & Answers. Bartleby Write is a virtual writing assistant to help with grammar, spell, citation and check for plagiarism.

Our fast-growing Bartleby Learn team is seeking a Director of Product Management who will be responsible for growing and expanding Bartleby’s digital ecosystem by leading a team of product managers across varied domain areas of the platform. We are looking for someone who is passionate about education and our mission.

The ideal candidate will have both hands-on, deep experience in product management and team building skills, ideally in the Education/EdTech space.

The position is full-time, based in New York City (Midtown)


  • Deliver on the product vision and strategy with the product team, and best-in-class product management methods.

  • Lead key components of the roadmap, formulating and delivering initiatives that drive business performance and user satisfaction.

  • Manage and mentor a team of product managers who develop features from problem definition through ideation, requirements, design, launch and change management.

  • Partner with market research and BI teams to identify new opportunities and refine requirements.

  • Facilitate the Agile process framework along with the development team. Participate in sprint planning, grooming, demos and retrospectives.

  • Work cross-functionally with Marketing, Operation and Finance to develop Go-To-Market plans for new features – messaging, positioning, pricing, promotions, etc.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to define buy/build/partner opportunities when considering new features

  • Define, implement, and own metrics to monitor and communicate product performance, validate hypothesis, refine content and experience.

  • Evangelize product management processes and best practices across the team, particularly hypothesis-driven product management

  • Additional responsibilities as needed

  • Complies at all times with the Standards, Policies and Code of Business Conduct and Ethics as outlined in the Employee Handbook


  • 8+ years of experience in product management for a consumer software company using an Agile development process framework. Higher-Education/EdTech market experience a strong plus.

  • 5+ years of proven experience directly managing a team of product managers in a fast-paced B2C environment, establishing OKRs, recruiting/hiring/mentoring, managing development and performance.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in work experience; MBA preferred, though not required.

  • A track record of building and launching consumer-facing software (web, mobile web, native apps), ideally with a digital content strategy involved.

  • Experience creating and contributing to a software product roadmap, evangelizing the product vision.

  • Experience with digital content and SEO optimization throughout the consumer delivery points (web, mobile, native apps) and ingested/authored/published content.

  • Experience with SaaS platforms and subscription models.

  • Affinity for good consumer-facing user interaction and experience. Experience working with design teams (internal or agencies).

  • Strong business foundation, including comfort with numbers and analysis of data. Able to drive build/buy/partner decisions.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization including users, vendors, partners and executive leadership.

  • Experience working directly and cross-functionally with developers, product managers, marketing and other related stakeholders.

  • Strong work ethic. Self-starting personality with the ability to problem solve and develop creative solutions; works well and stays focused under little supervision.

  • This position will require some flexibility in your schedule to occasionally interact with offshore teams (early morning, late evening conference calls).

  • Occasional travel (including internationally) may be required with this role.
