NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing Assistant Director, Insurance and Patient Accounts in New York, New York
The Assistant Director, Insurance and Patient Accounts provides leadership support and administrative oversight for accomplishing the NYU Student Health Center’s (SHC’s) mission and strategic goals. He/she is responsible for two SHC departments: Student Health Insurance and Patient Accounts. The Assistant Director, Insurance and Patient Accounts implements and manages both the NYU domestic and global student health insurance programs (“SHIPs”). He/she plans, develops, and recommends student health insurance program strategies and participates in annual renewal negotiations. The position designs enrollment and waiver procedures while also directing customer service and problem solving for a high volume of inquiries from students, families, NYU stakeholders, and external insurance carriers. The Assistant Director, Insurance and Patient Accounts assures the accuracy and timeliness of SHC’s revenue stream by conducting billing and collection for its medical and mental health visits and procedures. He or she audits and reviews co-pays, third party billing, and patient balances consistent with best practices. They oversee billing and collection activities including developing and implementing policies to ensure high quality, cost effective services; maximize income and revenue collection; and maintain excellent customer service. This position manages both union and exempt administrative insurance and billing staff and it coordinates human resources functions across departments. It serves as a liaison to and collaborates with SHC project teams, NYU schools and units, and external insurance carriers.
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, or Health Administration or related field.
Master's Degree in Business, Health Administration or related field.
5+ years of fiscal managerial experience, including experience in healthcare industry, especially health management of insurance and third-party billing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
7+ years of fiscal responsibilities in an ambulatory healthcare environment.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent data management skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to influence and advocate when appropriate. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality customer service including responsive and timely follow-up, as well as problem solving for complex issues and evaluating alternative solutions.
