SUNY New Paltz Instructional Support Technician in New Paltz, New York

The State University of New York at New Paltz’s Department of Art invites applications for an Instructional Support Technician in the Sculpture Program beginning in January 2022. The role of Instructional Support Technician requires specialized knowledge that is distinct to the Sculpture program. The position oversees all aspects of maintenance and upkeep of equipment and tools in an expansive sculpture studio; adherence to, and communication of, proper studio health and safety standards; coordination of studio access and security; purchasing and budget management; procuring, coordinating, and handling of materials; hiring, training and supervision of student employees. The Instructional Support Technician consults with Sculpture Faculty on a weekly basis about studio procedures and curricular needs and acts as the primary contact for the studio’s physical plant with the Office of Facilities Operations and the Office of Environmental Health and Safety. In addition to these tasks, the Instructional Support Technician assists faculty in the delivery of safety demonstrations and dedicates time to assist students with their projects.


A BA or BFA is required. Ideal candidates will have significant professional and/or educational experience in a similar role including proven experience in sculptural methods: welding and metal fabrication, woodworking, and casting and mold-making methods. The ideal candidate is a creative problem-solver and generous collaborator that demonstrates excellent communication and organizational skills, and exceptional budget and sculpture studio management skills. Facility with organizational/spreadsheet software and experience with sustainable art practices and digital fabrication methods is preferred. Ability to model a professional artistic practice and connect students to career opportunities preferred.
