WHY IS THIS POSITION IMPORTANT?
The position of GC/MS Instrument Specialist is within Toxicology located at Gretna, LA at Alere Toxicology Services. In this role, the individual will be responsible for maintaining acceptable drug testing laboratory performance in accordance with the SAMHSA mandatory guidelines and other regulatory organizations for all non-negative test results generated by the laboratory.

Responsiblefor maintenance of all GC/MS and LC-MS/MS instrumentation including but notlimited to cleaning and changing sources, changing and clipping columns, pumpmaintenance, and cleaning injection liners
Performingany required troubleshooting on instruments not functioning properly
Responsiblefor training employees on the maintenance and routine use of the GC/MS andLC-MS/MS instruments
Servingas representative with GC/MS and LC-MS/MS manufacturers
Maintainingthe proper method settings on each instrument
Assistin the development of new methods
Assist in themaintenance of department inventories and ordering
Storage of supplies and disposal of empty boxes; as needed
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS | EDUCATION:
Bachelor of Science or equivalent related field
Experience in similar role 6 + years or 4+ years with a Master Degree
Advanced ability to understand analytical techniques and procedures
Advanced ability to understand laboratory instrumentation
Ability to understand certification requirements for SAMHSA, CAP-FUDT, and other regulatory bodies
Advanced ability to understand the function of a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other laboratory computer systems
Advanced ability to communicate idea
Advanced ability to teach others
Advanced ability to write technical procedures
Ability to read and comprehend the SOP, Federal (49 CFR Part 40) and CAP-FUDT guidelines
Ability to communicate with other employees and supervisors
Ability to provide input and recommendations on operations
Ability to handle stress well in a high volume/demand production facility.
Ability to lift and/or move 50 pounds
Ability to have full body movement
Must have vision and hearing corrected to meet minimum acceptable norms
Climate-controlled office and testing laboratory environment
May be potential exposure to toxic or hazardous materials
