Job Description
(Senior) Manager Patient Advocacy (m/f/d)
This position reports to the Senior Director Public Affairs for Germany. This role has responsibility for Gilead patient advocacy initiatives in Germany in assigned (tbc) Gilead’s therapeutic areas of focus (one team member is already working as patient advocacy lead and responsibilities/therapeutic areas of focus will be divided up). It is the responsibility of the advocacy lead to develop and implement country plans that help engage local patient advocates on shared objectives for each therapeutic area. In this position you will closely cooperate with the advocacy lead and take over responsibility for assigned therapeutic areas of focus.
Specific Responsibilities
Serve as primary Gilead contact for local patient advocacy groups in assigned therapeutic areas of focus
Maintain on-going two-way dialogue with patient advocacy groups to understand priorities and opportunities for collaboration and support, and share information on Gilead and our position on key issues
Develop and implement specific plans that engage patient advocacy groups in our shared goal of enhancing patient access to Gilead’s innovative medicines in Germany, focusing on disease and treatment education, public health policy, and support for capacity building of patient advocacy group
In alignment with the Senior Director Public Affairs and the brand teams, drive patient related external communication projects and support internal communication about disease areas and Gilead patient advocacy programs
Represent the voice of the patient community in internal planning
Add insights and a patient advocacy perspective to the German Grants Committee manage the grants programme in Germany, reviewing applications for funding against predetermined criteria, awarding grants, and monitoring and evaluating funded projects
Together with Medical Affairs, engage patient advocacy groups in advisory boards to gather patient insights to inform our decision-making
Collaborate with the regional Public Affairs leads for each therapeutic areas to ensure alignment of the German advocacy activities to the regional strategy and to share best practices
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
Requires a track record of experience implementing projects with defined outcomes in a public affairs, advocacy or policy role
Excellent strategic thinker with ability to formulate, develop and execute on agreed strategies
Knowledge of the healthcare system and key policies relevant for pharmaceutical market access for highly innovative medicines
Strong executive presence with ability to command respect with both external and internal stakeholders
Sound business judgment and analytical skills
Successful working within cross-functional teams
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills
Experience with budget management
