Role & Opportunity:
We are looking for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer with a strong Product Development/Design background in Consumer Electronics for the next generation of Windows Mixed Reality devices. A strong combination of technical breadth and depth will allow you to work cross-functionally with different disciplines (Industrial Design, Ergonomics, Electrical, Thermal, Manufacturing, Software and Firmware). You will be part of a multidisciplinary group that will design hardware systems and develop manufacturing processes to bring innovative products to market.
Collaborate with Research and Development, Software Experience, and Product teams to generate product concepts and prototypes.
Develop and design multiple mechanical components, validate and test resulting components, bring to high volume production.
Lead team efforts in fabricating mechanical parts for prototype devices and selection of appropriate vendors/processes.
Own internal assembly procedure development for prototype hardware including documentation and staff training.
Work closely with manufacturing partners to develop and qualify tooling and other manufacturing processes.
Stay current on emerging technologies, materials, methods and manufacturing processes.
Manage mechanical projects for schedule, cost and quality. Make appropriate trade-offs between design rigor and rapid development timeline needs.
Drive clear and accurate communications and recommendations to internal and external team members by distilling complex technical challenges, outlining options, and providing supporting data
Seven years of mechanical product development experience, with at least five years in the area of consumer electronics.
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of rapid prototyping part fabrication processes.
Competence in adhesive selection, testing and bonding process development.
Hands-on experience with assembly process development and troubleshooting for small run production.
Experience with manufacturing/test fixture and equipment development, metal forming, CNC, injection molding (process and tooling), composites, plastic material selection, fabrics, optics, and complex mechanisms.
Project management experience in vendor outsourcing for part fabrication and electro-mechanical assemblies.
Understanding of and experience with printed circuit board mechanical interface definition.
Proficiency in Creo Parametric 4.0, Creo Elements/Direct or equivalent mechanical design software.
Some domestic and international travel required.
