State of Vermont Motor Vehicle Field Inspector in Montpelier, Vermont

The Motor Vehicle Field Inspector is responsible for investigative and technical field work involving civil and regulatory cases for the Department of Motor Vehicles, specifically related to motor vehicle safety, fraud, vehicle inspections and vehicle sales. This is a home-based position that will be assigned to the southern counties of Vermont and significant field work is required. The Field Inspector is responsible for performing investigations and coordinating with internal, as well as outside agencies at the local, state, and federal levels. Candidates should be comfortable providing testimony in regulatory hearings, to include traffic court. Proficiency with basic computer software technology is required and basic automotive background is preferred. Residency in the following counties is strongly preferred: Orange, Addison, Rutland, Windsor, Windham, and Bennington Counties.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a variety of settings, but much of the work is performed in the field, including frequent visits to service stations, motor vehicle dealers, and individual homes. This position is responsible for a large geographic area covering two or more counties. Stress may be involved in confronting persons when violations are encountered. Frequent travel in all types of weather is expected. May require weekend and irregular hours during work assignments. Some risk of physical harm is present, although incidents are not frequent.
