Sutter Health Ward Clerk/Receptionist in Modesto, California

Position Overview:

Sutter Gould Medical Foundation (SGMF) is a non-profit, multi-specialty health care organization affiliated with Sutter Health. Based in Modesto, SGMF provides quality medical care, health education and research activities in a five-county Central Valley area. SGMF's medical staff includes family practitioners, internists and pediatricians, as well as a range of specialist physicians. Services include imaging, nuclear medicine, a health library, health education programs, occupational medicine, cardiac rehabilitation, diabetes education, nutrition counseling, infertility counseling, weight management.

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of this position is to provides clerical and patient scheduling support to the nursing staff and the physicians in the departments they work. The position will also work as receptionist on needed basis and may require check in patients, schedule patients, enter messages into EHR, accepting and helping with paperwork, copays, cash handling, welcoming, greeting, and assisting patients and visitors, while providing excellent customer service. This position works with the nursing staff and physicians to facilitate and expedite patient transfers to the hospital, including managing all paperwork necessary for this process. This position is responsible for ordering supplies. At some locations this position performs tasks associated with the following: off site visits, bump list, duties with worker's compensation occupational health, rejection reports, insurance authorizations, medical records and duties associated with imaging. Knowledge of insurance guidelines and basic coding is a plus. This includes HMO's, PPO's, EPO's Medi-Cal, Medicate, etc. Person should be able to work in both team and independent settings well.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED. Completions of medical terminology course is preferred. Typing certificate for 35 WPM is required.

  • Experience: Customer service, communication, organizational, and computer skills such as would be gained through one year’s experience in a professional office setting. Previous experience in a medical setting is helpful. Skills in handling money, balancing cash drawer would be gained with 6 months of previous experience required. Previous experience and basic knowledge of medical insurances is preferred.

  • Knowledge: Knowledge of computer systems, their applications, and functionality is required for this position. Knowledge of medical terminology is desired. A knowledge of what constitutes excellent customer service and going extra mile is required.

  • Special Skills/Equipment: The ability to read, write and verbally communicate in English, and spell correctly is required. Well-developed phone and customer service skills. Ability to deal effectively with challenging customer service interactions. Ability to maintain a confidentiality of patient and business information. Ability to pay attention to detail and perform work accurately. Organizational skills and ability to prioritize work. Ability to complete multiple tasks amidst changing priorities and with frequent interruption. The ability to deal effectively with challenging customer service interactions. Ability to manage shifting priorities with frequent interruptions is a required skill. Math skills required to manage cash on needed basis. The ability to keep both patient and business information confidential and comply with HIPPA.
