Activity Assistant (CNA Certification Required)
Classification Non-Exempt
Reports to Activity Director
Summary/Objective In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the Residents we serve, the Activity Assistant is involved in planning, creating, and implementing activity programs in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as facility policies and procedures. The Activity Assistant works under the direction of the Activity Director. The work of the Activity Assistant is directed at caring for the emotional, recreational, and social needs of the residents.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include assisting the Activity Director and performing the following tasks as directed:
Assists in planning, creating, and implementing activity programs as directed by the Activity Director
Maintains knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations relating to responsibilities and advises Activity Director accordingly
In consultation with the nursing department, plans and implements actives for residents pursuant to physician orders
Maintains a good relationship built on communication and team work with members from other departments within the facility
Conducts meetings with residents and/or families as directed
Informs residents and families of available activities
Implements hobbies, arts and crafts, and other activities will appropriate material for residents to be engaged in
Plans and arranges transportation for activities to other locales as necessary
Maintains up-to-date notes relating to activities provided to residents
Regularly meets with Activity Director to review activities and progress, as well as plan future activities
Maintains the comfort, privacy and dignity of Resident’s and interacts with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect and promotes a caring environment
Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with Resident’s, visitors, families, peers and supervisors
Reports all Resident concerns to the appropriate department head
Reports all incidents, accidents, and unsafe situations immediately
Attend and participate in departmental meetings and in-services as directed
Complies with facility policies and procedures
Supervisory Responsibility This position does not have supervisory duties.
Work Environment This job operates in a healthcare setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the facility. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
This role may also encounter Residents who may have contagious illnesses. Appropriate precautions must be taken if applicable.
Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This position is part of a health care facility that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Although this is generally a Monday throuh Friday positon, staffing needs and emergencies may permit work during the weekends. In the world of Nursing Home Administration, significant events can occur at any given time. Ongoing direction and support may be necessary if systems aren’t properly implemented, continuously improved, and monitored.

Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
One-year relevant experience
Preferred Education and Experience
Associate or bachelor’s degree
Two years of relevant experience
