GuideOne Insurance Risk Control Representative in Minneapolis, Minnesota

The Risk Control Representative provides assistance to underwriting partners by providing an accurate description of the operational details of an insured, identifying hazards and making recommendations to eliminate or reduce the potential for loss. In this vital role, the Risk Control Representative is responsible for conducting reviews of social media, websites, photographs and surveys provided by our vendors.

This entry level position is perfect for individuals to get their start in a Loss Control career. Our ideal candidate will have exposure to the Property & Casualty insurance industry and excellent communication skills, including the ability to conduct professional surveys by phone.

As a Risk Control Representative, you will:

  • Reviews risk/loss control vendor reports for quality and develops risk improvement recommendations to be submitted to policyholders and agents

  • Complies with federal, state, and local safety regulations.

  • Conducts telephone risk assessment surveys

  • Conducts risk assessments utilizing information obtained through web-based sources including aerial imagery of roofs

  • Conducts on site risk assessment surveys. These risk assessment activities require contacting the policyholder and obtain information to document facts and observations, analyse exposures and controls, and develop risk improvement recommendations.

  • Reviews all claims/UW memos to determine the potential impact of profitability and determine the best course of action to control these exposures.

  • Assists in the cost estimating process by using technology to complete building measurements and valuations.

  • Consults with policyholders, underwriters and agents by email and phone to answer their safety and risk based questions.

  • Responsible for relationship and service issues with Travelers Boiler Re including assisting TBR staff when they are having difficulty in scheduling jurisdictional boiler inspections.

  • Conducts risk/loss analysis to identify root causes of loss and prepare recommendations to reduce exposure to loss.

  • Through analysis, will identify opportunities for improvement on an individual risk or book of business.


  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Sciences, Engineering, Business Administration or related field/equivalent desired

  • Experience in loss control, risk management or related field preferred

  • Property & Casualty insurance experience is a plus

    Additional Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

  • Ability to learn Guide One specific computer systems

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize work

  • Willingness to work toward completion of CSP, ARM, or other risk management/safety designation.

  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment

  • Self-motivated, driven to perform at a high level without direct oversight
