State of Minnesota General Maintenance Worker in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Job Summary

Job Summary

General Maintenance Workers provide a clean, safe and healthy environment to all Minneapolis College customers through performing general maintenance duties according to a regular schedule and specially assigned maintenance and repair activities. This position is also designed to provide our customers with support required to set up the facility for special events and instructional periods.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents and equipment.

  • Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely.

  • Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs.

  • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to perform assigned tasks with limited direction.

  • Ability to keep simple records.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to use judgment and discretion regarding common, recurring situations.

  • Ability to make minor mechanical repair to and operate maintenance equipment.

  • Ability to work with diverse segments of the college population, staff, and general public.

  • Ability to communicate with students, faculty, and staff personnel concerning problems that arise and to deal effectively with those problems.

  • Demonstrates an effort to improve cultural competence and actively take steps to include diversity training in professional development.

Physical Requirements

  • Physical health and endurance sufficient to perform work functions.

  • Ability to move equipment and furniture, and lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

  • Ability to work above the ground level such as on ladders and scaffolding.

Additional Requirements

  • To be considered for this position, former employees must have a clean employemnt record at with Minneapolis College.

In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (MnSCU) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to MnSCU’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
