The Commons, located in Minneapolis, is the headquarters of Allina Health, a not-for-profit health care organization serving patients and communities. Approximately 1,600 corporate and administrative service employees work at offices within Midtown Exchange, the site of the historic Sears retail complex at Chicago Avenue and E. Lake Street. This community landmark, adjacent to the campus of Abbott Northwestern Hospital, part of Allina Health, is the second largest building in Minnesota and includes offices, an internationally themed public market and residential units.

Responsible for assisting in the execution of the employee relations strategy across the organization, counseling managers through employee relations issues end-to-end (including documentation, analysis, and reporting), and developing both immediate resolutions and long-term prevention plans. The Specialist is also responsible for tracking issues, analyzing trends, and building linkages to management development, retention efforts, and HR business intelligence activity. In partnership with the Director of Employee Relations and the Employee Relations Lead, the Specialist is responsible for policy interpretation and ensuring that policies are updated and current. This is an individual contributor role.

  • Serve as the point of contact for employee relations, conduct, and/or compliance concerns raised by employees/leaders and reported through the integrity line.

  • Assess the nature and severity of the complaint and either provide coaching resources or refer complex matters to appropriate team members.

  • Partner with HRBPs on performance issues raised by leaders. Confer with HRBP to provide support and recommendation on how to manage situations.

  • Review all performance documentation before it is delivered to ensure consistency and completeness.

  • Log cases in tracking system.

  • Analyze employee relations case trends and in partnership with HR Business Partners, Law Department, and Labor Relations. Provide workplace-related recommendations/insights directly related to an investigation in accordance with company policy and practice.

  • Participate in key employee relations projects and/or cross-functional team initiatives.

  • Manage and update Human Resources policies and processes.

  • Build strong partnerships with HR Business Partner, Law Department, Labor Relations and other partners to foster trust and accountability.

  • Review internal processes and make recommendations for improvements and drive solutions that support business objectives and goals.

  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations related to EEO, labor relations, human resources, and stay current with evolving industry employee relations trends and challenges.

  • Build the skill and confidence of manager the effectively lead and address workplace issues with their employees.

Education

  • HS Graduate or GED Required

Qualification/Skills

  • 1+ years of experience handling internal company investigations within Employee Relations or Human Resources, including experience with interview techniques, principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting, research techniques and data collection.

  • Experience conducting complex ER investigations and witness interviews.

  • Strong understanding of ER policies, procedures, and legislation related to employment practices is required.
