The University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a Pacemaker/ICD Technician. The Pacemaker/ICD Tech provides direct and indirect patient care in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Determine priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Communicates with physician, ARNP, RN about changes in patient’s status, symptomatology and results of cardiac diagnostic interrogations studies. Display understanding of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in ECG, exercise stress testing, telemetry, and pacemaker analysis in both inpatient and ambulatory areas. Records patients' medical information and vital signs under supervision of physician. Monitors, records and reports symptoms and changes in patients' conditions. Updates electronic medical records. Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans. Educates patients on ways to prevent heart disease. Informs family on how to help the patient engage in healthy behavior at home. Assists with diagnostic testing and operates machinery that aids in the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. Interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assist assess patient's condition. Monitors cardiovascular equipment readings. Instructs individuals, families and other groups on topics such as health education, for pacer programing under direct supervision of MD, RN, or ARNP. Answers patient questions regarding pacer interrogations Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies, and ensures that stock of supplies is maintained. Informs physician of patient's condition during or after pacer interrogation. Direct and coordinate infection control programs, advising and consulting with specified personnel about necessary precautions. Perform administrative and coordination functions, such as taking responsibility for all aspects of the device clinic program as well as managing all medical record and documentation related to the Pacer clinic. Provide or arrange for training/instruction of auxiliary personnel or students as needed. Instructs nursing students and interns alongside physician, RN and ARNP for Device interrogation training. Provides patient care before and after cardiac surgery alongside the MD, RN or ARNP. Interrogates patient Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator, records and reviews findings with physicians. Makes changes to patients device with physician, RN, or ARNP. Modifies patient treatments based on patient responses alongside physician, RN and ARNP. Keeps up with PI and QA checks of equipment. Involves vendors as needed. Operates defibrillators in the event of an emergency. Informs nurses on other shifts about any extenuating circumstances involving patients. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

High School diploma

Certification and Licensing:

BLS, ACLS, Current State of Florida License CCI or RCIS


In lieu of CCI or RCIS, working experience with devices and or EP preferred
