The Vice President of Small Business Strategy for the mid-Atlantic region is responsible for leading and executing on the 2-50 small business strategy for the health plan in partnership with the inside sales team, with a focus on products, services and distribution that are both desirable for clients and financially advantageous.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Navigate a highly matrixed organization to coordinate its resources in creating strategies to meet and exceed growth and financial performance goals

  • Work in close coordination with peers from inside sales and various shared services partners to develop market strategies

  • Develop and manage the market’s 2-50 small business plan; advancing sales pipeline development, leveraging the appropriate product solutions and enhancing targeted broker / consultant / customer communications for the market

  • Present a positive image of UHG to the marketplace

  • Achieve a detailed understanding of all small business products, services and solutions

  • Partner across cross-functional areas to lead and execute strategic initiatives:

  • Lead pricing strategy with actuarial

  • Lead product strategy with development (medical, RX & Ancillary)

  • Drive growth with general agents (70% of 2-50 driven by 13 general agents)

  • Drive distribution alignment and utilization of digital technology programs like Benefitter and Think HR

  • Drive alignment with bonus and commission approaches

  • Identify, understand and respond to market trends

  • Perform market research to generate strategic intelligence and insights

  • Provide oversight of business plan execution, suggest plans to remediate and serve as a leader in removing barriers

  • Analyze and review qualitative and quantitative information to identify critical insights and implications

  • Work with inside sales to identify and implement national strategies at the health plan level

  • Work across teams to identify innovative solutions that differentiate our product and marketing strategies from that of competitors

  • Consistently model a customer-focused approach

  • Manage and operate in a fast-paced, high volume environment

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • 7+ years of experience leading sales/sales strategy

  • Strong financial acumen

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate and inspire at all levels, including addressing opportunities, risks, and strategic positioning

  • Proven record of displaying ownership, urgency and sound decision-making skills

  • Ability to understand and execute successful strategic initiatives around underwriting, financial and analytical details

  • You will be asked to perform this role in an office setting or other company location.

  • Employees are required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree

  • 5+ years of healthcare industry experience

  • Experience working across multiple states for a large organization
