Baffinland Iron Mine Training Superintendent in Mary River, Territory of Nunavut
Mission for this Position
Lead, plan, manage and implement all training and development services, policies, and programs for Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation. This includes delivering results in areas of training and development needs analysis, designing and developing training and development strategies.
Liaise with Training Manager to manage training budgets, manage training providers and conduct training appraisals.
Establish and maintain communications & relationships with all stakeholders of the operation (workers, supervisors, department heads, etc.) to ensure training needs are identified and addressed in a timely manner and risks associated with the business are reduced in order to build and maintain a safe, cost effective, and productive operation.
Ensure the training staff under the direction of the training supervisors are adhering to proper protocols and procedures.
Manages and evaluates the performance or training personnel.
Develops, implements and continuously monitors the training departmental operating budget.
Builds and develops the training team so that accountability for performance is expected and is effectively exercised by each staff member.
Works with the training supervisors to ensure that liaison occurs and training activities are planned and scheduled to meet IIBA commitments.
Identifies training needs and requirements for the site and ensures those needs are met by working with the training supervisors to coordinate and implement the training programs.
Identifies training and development needs (technical and non-technical) through analysis of the IIBA, job/skills analysis, workforce plans, appraisal schemes
Designs and develops training interventions covering the employment life cycle.
Ensures effective implementation of the succession planning and talent management processes.
Manages the effective delivery of all required training programs and external providers of training programs.
Evaluates and reports on training and development programs including reports required for the IIBA.
Provides individual employee training and development assistance when required.
Develops the training team, to ensure the provision of a professional Training service to the organization.
Supports the effective implementation of corporate training and development initiatives.
Provides counsel and assistance to employees at all levels in accordance with the company's training and development policies and procedures as well as relevant legislation.
Conducts seminars, workshops and other training sessions as required.
Develop and deliver training presentations as required.
Conducts benchmarking research to design training and education programs.
Contributes to the development and implementation of effective and comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures for interdepartmental functions.
Develops training systems and processes to efficiently manage the training department function.
Liaises with government and Inuit organizations as required to build positive, effective relationships which lead to effective training plans and programs designed to both increase the level of skills at site and to maximize employment of Inuit.
Participates in the periodic review & evaluation of existing equipment / policy / procedures / practices, makes recommendations and implements approved improvements.
At least 10 YEars Experiance
*WSCC Supervisor Certification
*First Aid Certification
*Degree or Certificate in Adult Education or Equivilant Work Experiance
Good understanding of the IIBA commitments relating to education and training.
Working knowledge of best practices for delivery of training to a diverse workforce.
Working knowledge of the Nunavut Apprenticeship program and Plans of Training.
Strong knowledge of the operation and maintenance required for open pit mining.
Strong knowledge of the Nunavut Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations as well as the Mines Act and Regulations.
Knowledge of computer operation, specifically Microsoft Office with emphasis on Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook and Computer Based Training programs that exist.
