POSITION ANNOUNCEMENTPosition: Unified Communications Engineer (Campus Flexible)Position Description: This position is one of a team of engineers in the area of Technology Advancement and Support. Reporting to the Communications and Network Administrator, the engineer works closely with the other Technology Advancement and Support staff to ensure that all unified communication components, cables, devices, and systems necessary for administration and instructional needs are identified, investigated, purchased, inventoried, and maintained. The focus for the engineer is on the implementation and maintenance of unified communications technologies, including installation, configuration, training, assessment and revision until the technology satisfactorily meets its intended purpose.POSITION DUTIES:Primary Duties *Primary responsibility is to plan, design, install, configure, and maintain secure scalable telecommunications (analog, digital, and VoIP) and unified communications functions of the college; facilitate the enhancement of services; and improve efficiencies and the effectiveness of operations - both academically and administratively; streamlining and automating processes.*Administers, and maintains backup solutions to provide redundancy and failover for unified communications systems.*Ensures the unified communication and voice system is accessible and fully functional for use in administrative, faculty, and staff offices as well as in classrooms and other common areas.*Assists with planning WAN, LAN, and other infrastructure upgrades or new installations.Secondary Duties*Assists with administration of virtual hypervisor environments to include Hyper-V and VMWare.*Assists with administration of a diverse server environment to include various versions of Windows Server.*Assists with administration of switching and routing of WAN infrastructure between all sites to facilitate unified communications technology.*Maintains Data Center infrastructure to ensure high availability of services.*Performs cabling installations as necessary to facilitate network infrastructure changes, additions, or enhancements.*Performs other related duties as assigned.Specialized Duties*Serves as the lead support services representative regarding voice and unified communication issues, and is responsible, in cooperation with the Technology Support Services Supervisor, for ensuring a satisfactory level of voice and unified communications support on all campuses.*Provides training to the Technology Support Technicians to ensure their ability to support the new technologies introduced.*Works cross-functionally to accomplish assignments. Interacts with internal and external peers and managers to exchange complex information related to areas of specialization.*Assesses the effectiveness of new communication technologies (such as video, telepresence, and other distance-education or remote systems) as they are introduced and implemented; works with end-users and revises or reconfigures systems as necessary to meet their needs.Minimum Qualifications: *Bachelor's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field of the position and sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, or Associate's Degree with two years of paid work experience in a related IT field or four years of paid work experience in unified communications duties.*Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.Salary/Benefits: $42,397.48 annually.
