POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT: The Occupational Therapist/Mental Health Counselor is accountable for providing Sensory Integration services as part of the IRTS clinical team. This includes evaluation, assessment, implementation, treatment, program planning, communication, education and documentation of Sensory interventions, as well as IRTS services. Services are provided in the form of one-to-one interaction and short term groups. In this position, you will plan and implements treatment programs and the development of treatment plans, designed to improve deficit areas of physical, cognitive and/or emotional functioning and to maximize the patient’s independence in life skills. Afton Place is an intensive residential mental health treatment center providing sixteen single rooms that create a safe and supportive environment where individuals work to reach their recovery goals and rejoin the community.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy (ACOTE); includes completion of a 6 month internship in required areas of Occupational Therapy.
Experience: One year or 2000 hours supervised experience with SPMI (Serious Persistent Mental Illness) adults. Additional education AND previous experience in Sensory Integration.
Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:
Eligible for registration as an Occupational Therapist with the National Board of Certified Occupational Therapists (NBCOT) or the successful completion of the National Certification Exam and licensure with the State of Minnesota.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Possess the knowledge and skills to provide quality Occupational Therapy/Sensory Integration services as described in the position summary. Residential Mental Health experience a plus.
