Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT: The Nurse Clinician position at Afton Place is responsible for overseeing the medication, psychiatric and medical needs of program and extended service residents. This includes evaluation, assessment and coordination of psychiatric and medical services. Will participate in intake/admission process, as well as the treatment process. Ensure that an effective and timely treatment/discharge plan is acted upon with smooth transitions in levels of care. Afton Place is an intensive residential mental health treatment center providing sixteen single rooms that create a safe and supportive environment where individuals work to reach their recovery goals and rejoin the community. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor’s of Science Nursing Degree - OR - Associate’s of Nursing Degree with at least one year of RN experience. Experience: One or more years of experience working with Serious and Persistent Mentally Ill (SPMI) patients. Licensure/Registration/ Certification: Current Minnesota RN license Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the values, principles and methodologies of social work or psychology.

  • Ability to integrate social, medical and psychotherapeutic data in order to form a treatment plan and provide appropriate interventions (therapy, counseling, skill training etc.)

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with patients, families, co-workers and community organization.

  • Sensitivity and competence of cross-cultural issues.

  • Ability to work within a dynamic and continuously changing healthcare environment.

  • Knowledge of county, state and federal regulations, i.e. healthcare funding, civil commitments, child abuse, vulnerable adults.

  • Knowledge of community resources (placement, community based treatment options)

  • Excellent problem identification and problem solving and follow-through skills.

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal Skills

  • Excellent organization skills and ability to prioritize workload

  • Basic computer skills
