PARK RANGER –(seasonal)

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: Class Code: 9211; Range: 13; Pay: $12.95/hr.; 40 hours/week. This is maintenance and personal services work in providing services to park users, maintaining and repairing facilities at a state park or day use area, and acting as an assistant to the Park Manager. Responsibilities include meeting the public and providing for their needs and performing tasks necessary to maintain and protect land and water areas, buildings, and other physical facilities at state parks and day use areas. Supervision may be exercised over a small number of employees. Work is performed under general supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year of experience in park maintenance and operation or equivalent.

Valid Class C Maine motor vehicle operator’s license prior to completing permanent status.

The following general information pertains to seasonal employment at Maine State Parks:

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older (Lifeguards must be 16 or older)

  • Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or have legal authority to work in the U.S.

  • Housing is required in the Penobscot River Corridor and the Allagash Wilderness Waterway.

  • In general, housing is not available at the other parks.

  • Most positions are scheduled to work 40 hours each week, with weekends and some holidays required.

  • Parks seasonal positions are required to wear uniforms which are provided by the agency.

Since many of our parks are seasonal, park staff may not be available to take your call during the early spring months. If you are unable to the park manager at a park; please contact the Southern Region Office at (207) 624-6080.

Job offer to a new hire is conditional upon verification of credentials, criminal record, and driver’s license check if applicable. Three references must be made available at the interview to include at least one work-related reference. BENEFITS:

Value of State’s share of Employee’s Retirement: 14.47% of pay

Value of State-paid Dental Insurance: $14.31 biweekly

Value of State-paid Health Insurance*:

Level 1: 100% State Contribution = $461.75 biweekly (employee pays nothing)

Level 2: 95% State Contribution = $438.66 biweekly (Employee pays: 5%)

Level 3: 90% State Contribution = $415.58 biweekly (Employee pays: 10%)

Level 4: 85% State Contribution = $392.49 biweekly (Employee pays: 15%)

*Active State employees will remain at their current level, based on wages and status with regard to the health credit premium program
