JOB REQUIREMENTS: Physical Therapy Resident/Intern Sports Medicine The American Center - 8121 DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Join the #1 hospital in Wisconsin! We are seeking a Sports Physical Therapy Resident to: * Attend and participate in didactic education designed to advance clinical reasoning and pattern recognition in sports medicine and sports physical therapy. * Challenge their own and fellow residents' clinical decision making through constructive feedback in didactic units and case presentations. * Form alliances with patients and their families with the common goal of optimizing function and return to sport following acute injuries, surgical procedures and non-traumatic impairments. * Learn advanced level clinical biomechanics for evaluation and treatment in our specialty clinics runners, swimmers, cyclists, golfers, dancers, throwers, tactical athletes and strength and power. * Learn state of the art care for sports related concussion through our sports concussion clinic. * Receive and modify practice patterns based on constructive feedback from mentors. * Participate in education by teaching in the sports medicine education series, the sports medicine symposium, the UW Madison Athletic Training Program and various outreach programs. * Collaborate on a weekly basis with board certified and fellowship trained sports medicine physicians and surgeons. * Treat a variety of post-operative sports medicine conditions while being mentored by staff. * Work in our state-of-the-art facilities including the 28,000 square foot sports rehab facility at The American Center that has an indoor turf field, 2 pools, a basketball court, a golf hitting area with a K-vest, a sprint track and functionally based weight room. The Research Park facility has a fitness center to allow for movement-based sports rehabilitation. * Participate in mentor guided sports medicine research. * Participate in weekly outreach training room and event coverage. Work Schedule: 100% FTE, 40 hours per week. Scheduled shifts are Monday through Friday. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department. Also, must be certified athletic trainer or EMT or have taken an approved Emergency Responder course. Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: * The physical therapist must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to within an age scope to include child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations served on his or her assigned unit. * The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Ability to work in a team environment and to collaborate with a variety of professionals.
