This is a position for a fulltime Industrial Hygiene (IH)/ Occupational Safety and Health (OH&S) Intern working for BAE Systems in Louisville, KY during summer 2021. This position supports BAE Systems- Louisville, KY; Safety & Health, & Environment (SHE)Servicesunits to ensure overall Federal, State, and local regulatory compliance. This includes preparing and implementing IH sampling plans and evaluating employee exposures and control systems, as well as providing general safety and health assistance in support of BAE Systems safety and health programs and systems.

As an Industrial Hygiene & Safety Intern, you will:

  • Provide support to the SHE function and assist the SHE Manager with monitoring, training, and reporting, on compliance issues pertaining to federal, state, local, and corporate safety, health and environmental regulations

  • Assist in development of IH sampling plans, conduct IH sampling, prepare sampling reports, and providing general assistance in the site s occupational exposure control efforts

  • Aid with inspections, completing government mandated paperwork, and writing technical reports/procedures

  • Participate with and assist Safety Teams on compliance or procedural related issues

  • Assist in IH/safety training of production employees and operations management thru safety meetings or providing material to supervision for their use

  • Participate in the completion and follow-up on plant safety audits and inspections at assigned facilities

  • Assist in maintaining safety data sheets

  • Assist in conducting incident investigations and preparation of appropriate reports at the assigned facility, generates reports indicative of trends, losses, open claims, etc. based on such accident investigations and other relevant sources, and develops and sees through to completion corrective action plans

  • Work and coordinate safety duties with Health Services for worker compensation case management, ergonomics, industrial health and hygiene

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree program pursuing Safety, Health, and Environmental curriculum (preferably with an Industrial Hygiene emphasis) or related field at an accredited college/university

  • Ability to work independently and effectively with employees at all levels across the business

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Ability to conduct training presentations

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • GPA of 2.5 or above
