The laboratory of Dr. Judd Rice at the USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to develop and apply innovative molecular techniques to advance the current understanding of epigenomic dynamics in human health and disease. This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position that includes the full medical benefits offered by USC.
The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr. Rice to participate in the design, execution and publication of pioneering research studies aimed at elucidating novel epigenomic mechanisms that promote cell differentiation and cancer transformation. The candidate will also assist in supporting all aspects of maintaining a research laboratory as described below. Candidates should have the appropriate educational background and experience in a laboratory setting with demonstrated knowledge and competency in fundamental molecular and cellular biology techniques and applications. The candidate’s combined education/experience will be considered as a substitute for the Preferred Qualifications described below. Ideal candidates are those that possess excellent interpersonal communication skills, meticulous attention to details, competency at working independently and the ability to troubleshoot/adapt to research challenges.
Job Accountabilities include:
Conducts research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols. Collects and records laboratory measurements and data. Computes results for a variety of research procedures, tests and techniques.
Maintains accurate records of procedures used to conduct experiments. Uses laboratory/computer equipment to conduct analyses of experiment data. Provides routine interpretations of analyses.
Maintains and calibrates laboratory equipment. Performs or arranges for basic repairs. May alter equipment to meet experiment requirements. Makes recommendations for equipment acquisitions.
Maintains and organizes laboratory supplies. Monitors inventory levels and orders or secures supplies as needed.
Maintains research facility in orderly, operable condition. Maintains security and safety of equipment, samples, specimens and data.
Learns basic laboratory safety and, if appropriate, basic radiation or blood borne pathogen safety under the direction of the USC Safety Office and more experienced laboratory staff.
Update and maintain the laboratory web site.
3+ years of research experience in a molecular biology laboratory.
A PhD degree with demonstrated strong curriculum in quantitative biology including chemistry, engineering, computational science, and biostatistics.
Experience with high throughput molecular biology techniques.
Knowledge of computer analysis techniques and ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data.
Working knowledge of basic laboratory equipment and protocols.
Minimum Qualifications: PhD Degree in Biological Sciences with significant working experience in a basic biological research laboratory.
