Your Role and Responsibilities
This exciting and unique technical opportunity will enable you to make direct contributions to the income of the IBM Company!
The Code Clearance team is responsible for examining product source code along with the associated build, test, and documentation. Code Clearance is performed when IBM licenses software assets to other companies, and is necessary in order to determine the originality of the code, identify third party code, discover Open Source Software that is non-permissive, and more generally identify and document the entire set of materials needed to create a product using this software.
A Code Clearance Project involves you as an engineer (possibly in a lead role), an IP Law Attorney, the Developers who are knowledgeable in the software, and a Business Development Executive. The project is decided by the business team, development is requested to provide the code, the code is scanned using tools, and you will annotate the code in documents created by the scanning tool. Subsequently, you will work with Development to understand the building blocks of the code and document the findings in a custom worksheet created by our team.
When Clearance is complete, Development will remediate any items that can’t be transferred, and the Code Clearance Team will assure that Development makes available for transfer to the licensee all required materials as discovered and defined in the Clearance Project.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Excellent collaboration and communication skills
4+ years experience in a software development or software services organization
General knowledge of the software release process
Understanding of Certificates of Originality and how they are created
General knowledge of Open Source Licenses and the implications of OSS use
Understanding of how code repositories are employed
Understanding of how code is built into a product
Ability to read source code and content/comments included
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
4+ years software Development experience
Release Management experience
Use of CSAR
Use of WICKED
Skill in working with scripts and macros
Interest in AI and Machine Learning for future tool development
